ABOLISH ICE‼️

Tens of thousands in Salt Lake leave work, close businesses, and shut down the city demanding the abolition of ICE. Salt Lake answering the call from Minnesota to expand their strike on January 23 across the country in response to the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. by @pslsaltlake

Members of the PSL condemn the Utah County Commission for unleashing violent police officers onto their constituents immediately after they unanimously approved a widely unpopular data center ordinance without allowing public comment.

Over 100 residents had packed the room in clear opposition to private data center development in the county.

One young woman was targeted, dragged out of the meeting and slammed onto her face as she was arrested.

We will not let this stand. We demand the immediate arrest and prosecution of Phil Crawford and we demand an immediate statewide ban on all data center development.

‼️ Election Day isn’t the finish line. We need an entirely new system!

Working Utahns should use every opportunity to challenge the far-right and defend our communities. But no election alone will end ICE terror. No politician alone will save the Great Salt Lake. History shows us that the gains our movement has won don't come from the kindness or good nature of those in power, but from people organizing together to force a change.

From the fight for people's control over data center development in Utah to the mass movement that helped bring an end to the proposed immigrant detention center on SLC's west side, real progress will only come from powerful and diverse movements, taking collective action, and disrupting business as usual.

To address the crises of capitalism, we urgently need to build a socialist movement that fights to put power into the hands of working Utahns instead of billionaires. To win the future we so desperately need and deserve, the working class needs our own party and a movement that goes well beyond the midterms!

💀🕯️A closer look at our Dia De Los Muertos event on Sunday.

We brought our community together to build an ofrenda and commemorate loved ones and community members that have passed away. We also honored political martyrs and victims of ICE and state violence.

In grief and solidarity we renewed our commitment to fight for a new system based on justice and liberation for our communities.
Honor the dead and fight for the living!

From police violence to the national oppression of Indigenous peoples — capitalism will stop at nothing to force billionaire-backed data center development onto our communities.

We need a whole new system. Only socialism can put political power directly into the hands of communities so that we can determine what does and does not get developed, and what kind of future we want for ourselves. by @pslsaltlake

STATEWIDE CALL TO ACTION❗ Stop The Data Center Takeover! Justice for Aspen! Defend Utah County! 🆘 After the Utah County Planning Commission's vote resulted in violence from law enforcement we cannot back down. Utah County Government won't confirm the November 4 agenda after multiple contact attempts by multiple constituents -- we need all hands on deck. They think they can keep us in the dark and pass these amendments when we aren't looking. If the land use amendments aren't on that agenda, we will still let them know how we feel during public comment. THE PEOPLE OF UTAH DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY NOW! #utah #datacenter by @pslsaltlake

⁉️ Did you know a person making minimum wage in Utah needs to work 168 hours/week to afford a 2-bedroom apartment? It doesn't have to be this way!

Since 2009, the Utah state minimum wage has been stuck at just $7.25/hour while housing costs — and the costs of all other basic needs — have skyrocketed. Today, a Utah worker needs to earn an average of $30.42/hour to afford a two-bedroom apartment working full-time.

But we know this crisis goes beyond just housing and wages. It’s a crisis of capitalism itself — an economic system that puts profits over people’s most basic needs.

Swipe to learn how socialism could tackle the root of this crisis and build a society where everyone has a home. ➡️

Honor the dead, and fight for the living ✊🏽

Day of the Dead is a tradition celebrated by many Latin American communities. It is a day to commemorate our loved ones who have passed away through ofrendas, shared stories, and solidarity.

During the 1960s Chicano Movement, Mexican-American activists and revolutionaries used the tradition to not just commemorate the death of family members and loved ones, but to commemorate and honor political martyrs or victims of state violence to make a statement.

In this legacy, we will come together to honor the lives of those who have been killed by ICE and police violence, support families and communities who have been targeted by ICE, and reaffirm our commitment to keep fighting and demanding ICE out of SLC!

From Utah County to Salt Lake City, the movement for socialism is growing as more and more people are seeking solutions that address the scale of the crisis we are experiencing today.

On Tuesday, October 20, the Utah County Planning Commission exposed not only the utter lack of democracy under the capitalist system, but also the systemic policy of state violence that this highly unequal and oppressive social order relies on to maintain stability and continue functioning. Even when at least 76% of the state clearly opposes local officials’ decisions. Such is the case with rampant private data center development across Utah for the benefit of a small handful of tech billionaires.

Now is the time to fight for a new system, where the fundamental contradictions that produce police repression, violence against women, the devastation of the planet for profit, and the total lack of real democracy, are made obsolete.

2.5 years after the University of Utah sent riot police on its own students for protesting the U’s ONGOING complicity in Israel’s genocide, they hosted and promoted overnight camping for ESPN’s College Gameday. 🤬

The University’s policies around overnight camping explicitly make the exception to allow it only for sporting events, including specifically for College Gameday. This exposes the hypocrisy of the U. Occupying a public space becomes strictly political and only allowed if it upholds the status quo—a system in which institutions of education become institutions of imperialism.

MEChA de U of U is still steadfast in our demand that the University of Utah DISCLOSE their investments and DIVEST from companies that directly or indirectly fund genocide. FREE PALESTINE, now and forever ✊🇵🇸

[MEChA de U of U is not trying to call out the acts of any individual student at Gameday, but showcasing the difference and double-standards from the University’s administration to allow and promote some students behavior but censor and reprehend others.] by @pslsaltlake
