Fabulous to see Revenant, an interactive sculptural installation by Richard Davis @rdavis.art at @pssquaredbelfast, exploring the performance of voice through movement and interactive technology.

Closing tomorrow, Saturday 31 October at 5pm, so don't miss the chance to experience this exceptional work. A real highlight of the current Northern Irish art scene.

Five sculpted heads, created by combining multiple faces, form a kind of digital choir. Using 3D scanning, digital sculpting and 3D printing, Richard has created figures that respond to visitors' movements, bringing their voices to life. As we move around the space, different voices and sounds are triggered, creating an ever-changing sound composition. A fascinating interplay of sculpture, sound and technology.

Richard works at Digital Arts Studios @das_belfast , where he has generously supported countless artists, always working behind the scenes to help make our exhibitions happen. He's been part of so many of our creative journeys, so it's particularly wonderful to see his own work taking centre stage.

Also lovely to see Catherine Devlin, Richard's colleague at DAS, taking a very rare moment into the spotlight with her own sculpture, developed through 3D scanning, digital sculpting and 3D printing. Fantastic work!

Also showing is heavy, direct, quick by Emma Quin @emmma_quin Drawing on footage from the Northern Ireland Screen Digital Film Archive, Emma explores the relationship between labour, leisure and the body. Through historical images of work and dance, she considers how our bodies are shaped by the demands of working life, and how dance offers a space for freedom, expression and reclaiming movement on our own terms. A thought-provoking exploration of the politics of everyday life.

Two very different approaches to making, and a pleasure to see both artists’ work at PS² and to see the new @pssquaredbelfast space in High Steet. Congrats @namej_janem , @davymahon and all at PS². Incredible resilience and achievment ! by @pssquaredbelfast

It’s official - the lights are off and nobody’s home on Rosemary Street!

We’ve been there since February 2020 (an auspicious month for lots of reasons) and managed to wring six years out of a month-to-month rolling contract.

Thank you to EVERYBODY who generously gave us time, energy, hands and wheels. Whilst our new place on High Street is only two minutes’ walk away, that somehow made it worse.

We so appreciate all of the artists who turned enthusiastic painters and decorators, and all of you who schlepped our stuff, risking your toes, sanity and other people’s vehicles along the way.

We hope you’ll join us at our next exhibition, Low Tech Soft Touch by Ronan Smyth, which opens on Thursday 12 November from 6pm.

It has been wonderful to work with artist Eslam Abd El Salam to prepare Hiraeth, his solo show at SIRIUS, in dialogue with Jane Morrow of PS2 in Belfast. We look forward to continuing to support Eslam as he develops his practice.

This exhibition is organised by SIRIUS in partnership with PS2, Belfast, and curated by SIRIUS Director Miguel Amado. It is realised with funding from the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport through the Co-operation with Northern Ireland Scheme.

CALL FOR BOARD MEMBERS

Deadline: 5pm, Sunday 22 November

More information and a short Google Form to register your interest are available on our website, link in bio!

We’re looking for three or more new Trustees to join us as we embark on a new phase for PS², with a new building, more spaces for studios and membership opportunities, a dynamic exhibitions and events programme, new and ongoing offsite projects, and a range of national and international partnerships.

We’re particularly interested in hearing from you if you have expertise in the following areas:

* Built and natural environment disciplines, e.g.: architecture, sustainable development, environmental activism and ethics, or other social and spatial practices

* HR, change management and people development

* Financial oversight responsibility, e.g.: fundraising and business development for public/private sector

* Cultural sector (outside of visual art), e.g.: film, television, journalism

At PS², we design programmes and spaces which acknowledge and support those who experience intersectional barriers to the arts. This call for Board members also prioritises those with lived experience of being politically minoritised or marginalised. by @pssquaredbelfast

We’ve had a brilliant day, hosting participants and partners in the Professional Development Programme 2026/27 organised by @clancy_quay_studio @superprojects_ and @ncad_education

This programme invites recent graduates from all fine art courses across the island of Ireland to come together over a 9 week programme of weekly seminars on theoretical and practical skills, as well as in depth gallery and studio visits with curators and established artists. We’re also part of the cohort of mentors providing one-on-one support for artist-participants.

Thanks to all of the participants and partners who joined us today in Belfast, as well as all of the following who warmly welcomed our group:

Richard Davis is one of Belfast’s very best creative polymaths. He’s a respected animator, music video producer, designer, curator, musician (as Heliopause) and collaborator whose work moves freely across disciplines. With Revenant, he commands a territory entirely his own 🌀

At PS², five sculpted heads, each formed by combining multiple faces, become the unlikely performers in an evolving vocal choir. Built through 3D scanning, digital sculpting and 3D printing, the figures respond to the movement of visitors, their voices emerging, overlapping and harmonising as people move through the space. No two encounters are quite the same.

There’s something brilliantly uncanny about the result. The work draws the body into conversation with its digital double, exploring presence and absence, recognition and estrangement. Davis brings sculpture, interactive technology and original vocal composition into an intimate, exquisitely considered whole, where the visitor becomes part of the performance without ever fully controlling it.

And there’s still time to see one of the best exhibitions you’ll see all year. Revenant closes this Saturday, 31st October, at PS², 31-35 High Street, Belfast. Open 12pm-5pm, Tuesday to Saturday. by @pssquaredbelfast

Spotlight on the second of our two current exhibitions: Revenant by Richard Davis

This beautiful documentation c/o Simon Mills @photosbysi 🔊 sound on!

Revenant is a sculptural installation exploring the performance of voice through movement and interactive technology.

Five sculpted heads inhabit the space, created through a process of 3D scanning, digital sculpting and 3D printing. Each sculpture combines multiple faces into a single form, creating identities that feel simultaneously familiar and unknowable.

Emerging voices are triggered by the audience as they navigate around the sculptures. These voices overlap, and harmonise together, gradually forming an improvisational choir shaped by the movement and number of people within the space.

This project was kindly funded by the Individual Artists Digital Evolution Awards, supported by the National Lottery through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.

Open again from Tuesday - Saturday, 12-5pm

Spotlight on one of our two current exhibitions: ‘heavy, direct, quick’ by Emma Quin

This beautiful documentation c/o Simon Mills @photosbysi

‘heavy, direct quick’ draws together ideas around power relations, labour, and dance, to consider the social, cultural and political structuring of bodies within the social environment.

Across sculpture, film and installation, this body of work focuses on domains in which the body is always signalling, suggesting, holding, moving and making in different contexts.

The exhibition is complemented by a Performance Art Workshop. See our previous post for further information, and booking details via link in bio 👆

The exhibition is generously funded by the Fenton Arts Trust and Arts Council of Northern Ireland, and supported by Northern Ireland Screen’s Digital Film Archive.

🎙️ ALSO OPENING THURSDAY 1 OCTOBER
⚫️ @latenightart_belfast
🔴 heavy, direct, quick
⚪️ Emma Quin

‘heavy, direct quick’ draws together ideas around power relations, labour, and dance, to consider the social, cultural and political structuring of bodies within the social environment.

“It is the body that is at issue - the body and its forces, their utility and their docility, their distribution and their submission…The body is directly involved in a political field; power relations have an immediate hold upon it; they invest it, mark it, train it, torture it, force it to carry out tasks, to perform ceremonies, to emit signs”
Michel Foucault, 1975

By acutely focusing on representation of both leisure and labour within the @ni_screen Digital Film Archive, this work highlights the ways in which humans have always and will always use dance and leisure to follow their intuition and interest, an innate human desire that capitalism, try as it might, cannot rewrite.

The exhibition is complemented by a Performance Art Workshop. More information and booking details in bio 👆

TWO NEW SHOWS KLAXON!

Join us on Thursday 1 October for two @latenightart_belfast openings. First up:

Revenant
Richard Davis

Revenant is a sculptural installation exploring the performance of voice through movement and interactive technology.

Melancholic, intimate and curious, Revenant brings together sculpture, interactive technology and original vocal composition to reflect on presence and absence, the physical body and digital representation.

The audience does not simply observe or listen; movement becomes a performative part of the artwork. Each visitor enters into a relationship with the sculptures and voices. No single participant completely controls the sound. Instead, the choir emerges through human-computer interaction and a shared exchange between audience members.

Richard Davis is an artist, animator and musician based in Belfast. Originally trained in animation, he has created hand-made 2D animated work for music, film and television, including projects for Snow Patrol, BBC NI, and Historic Royal Palaces.
Alongside his visual practice, Richard writes and performs original music under the name @heliopausemusic

This project was kindly funded by the Individual Artists Digital Evolution Awards, supported by the National Lottery through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
