✧ How artists worked with creativity as a spiritual practice ✧

We see creativity as a way of opening yourself up to the world and transforming experience into something new. 🌀

Many artists speak about creation as tuning in to a source, a field, a consciousness larger than the individual self. Its not about forcing ideas but being open to receive them. As if we become vessels through which something wants to move.

David Lynch describes ideas as existing in an “ocean of consciousness,” where transcendental meditation allowed him to dive deeper and ‘catch bigger fish.’ 🐟

Hilma af Klint saw her paintings as guided works, created in collaboration with spiritual beings, translating unseen dimensions into visual form.

David Bowie drew from Buddhism, mysticism, and altered states of perception, using identity, performance, and sound as tools for transformation and self-transcendence.

Chrysanne Stathacos integrates ritual, flowers, and acts of care into her practice, drawing from Tibetan Buddhism and spiritual traditions that connect art with healing and our relationship to nature.

Remedios Varo wove dream logic, alchemy, and Jungian symbolism into her paintings, portraying inner transformation as a mystical, psychological journey.

For these artists, creativity wasn’t just expression , it was a practice. A way of accessing intuition, dissolving the ego, and relating to life with deeper awareness.

Creating opens us. Trauma and difficult experiences can make us contract, protect, and narrow our emotional range. Creative practice gently loosens that again. It restores movement, imagination, and the ability to see beyond the immediate story.

Maybe this is why creativity and spirituality meet so often in the same space ,both ask us to listen inward, trust the unseen, and allow something greater than the thinking mind to guide the way.

Ravi Zupa — Symbolic Worlds & Rebel Spirits 🔥
Working across painting, collage, print, and sculpture, Denver-based artist Ravi Zupa merges global mythologies, political critique, and street sensibility into one powerful visual language.

His work draws on everything from Renaissance art to Tibetan thangka painting, mixing sacred imagery with pop culture and protest — revealing how the old gods still speak through modern chaos. We love it!! 🌄

🌱 Visions Beyond the Veil 🌀
Isaac Abrams — one of the pioneers of psychedelic art — translated inner journeys into vivid, flowing worlds of form and color. Emerging from the counterculture of the 1960s, his work mirrors consciousness itself: luminous, interconnected, and alive.

NASA’s 1970s space utopias 🚀🌱
In the 1970s, artist Don Davis visualized life beyond Earth — vast torus-shaped habitats where humanity thrived among stars and gardens. Commissioned by NASA’s Ames Research Center, these renderings captured an era of futuristic optimism where science, ecology, and imagination had limitless potential 🌍✨

SACSAYHUAMÁN — Fortress of the Sun
High above Cusco, the megalithic walls of Sacsayhuamán hold stories that defy easy explanation. Built from stones weighing over a hundred tons, perfectly fitted without mortar, the site reveals a level of engineering and cosmic alignment still debated today.

Were the Inca creators — or inheritors — of an even older knowledge?

🎭GAURI GILL — Acts of Appearance
In this ongoing series, Gauri Gill collaborates with Adivasi papier-mâché artists from Maharashtra to explore identity, ritual, and performance. Each mask represents the meeting points of local myth and social reality, turning daily life into living theatre.

Gill’s work challenges how photography records truth — shifting the focus from observation to participation.

Inside Biosphere 2 🌎✨
In 1991, eight researchers sealed themselves inside a 3-acre glass world in the Arizona desert — an experiment in self-sustaining life on Earth and beyond. What began as a dream of ecological harmony became one of the most fascinating human experiments of the century.
