How to request a personalized queer book recommendation from me 📚

I get a lot of comments asking for queer book recommendations. It’s impossible to answer every single one. So I started taking recommendation requests through my Bindery instead.

Here’s exactly how to request a personalized book rec from me!

Every bit of support on Bindery helps me get closer to my dream of launching an imprint dedicated to publishing the queer and trans books I wish existed. 🌈 📚 by @pucksandpaperbacks

Here are five reasons you should make me your new favorite bookish content creator 👀

Hi, I’m Alex. I’m a trans man who shares queer book recs every week! 📚🏳️‍⚧️

1. I don’t read popular or hyped books. I love backlist and underrated titles.
2. I share queer book recs every week
3. I love audiobooks 🎧
4. I read diversely and am intentional about the authors I promote
5. I love my library

Here’s why you should…” the following five slides have a one sentence reason to why you should follow Alex. See caption for more details. End image description. by @pucksandpaperbacks

THINGS I WILL NEVER DO AS A QUEER BOOKISH CONTENT CREATOR 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️📚

My purpose online is to uplift queer and trans books while creating a safe space for queer and trans book lovers. These are five things I would never do as a bookish content creator. I appreciate being called in if I make a mistake.

I will never promote harmful authors. I’ll delete your comment if you comment a problematic and harmful author on my page especially authors like Mackenzie Lee or TK Klune. This is not a safe space for those authors and books.

I will never say audiobooks aren’t reading because they ARE.

I will never work with brands I don’t align with.
I will never tag authors in reviews or engage with them. This is a reader space.

I will never not share content warnings. Content warnings are so important! by @pucksandpaperbacks

Happy Halloween from Arthur Read 📚🎃 by @pucksandpaperbacks

If I didn’t have a lot of time to read this week, here are the two queer books I’d choose…a short nonfiction and a sapphic second chance romance.

💛Falling in Love with Being Human: Letters to Lost Souls by Kai Cheng Thom
💛Bed and Breakup by Susie Dumond

If I could only read one queer book this weekend, this is the book I would choose.

What books are you reading this weekend?

🌈 Glitch Girl by Rainie Oet

If I were to assign books to someone who was just getting into reading queer books, here are the three queer books I would start with…

🌈 The New Queer Conscience by Adam Eli
🌈 Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree
🌈 Disappoint Me by Nicola Dinan

queer personal curriculum - part two

In honor of back to school season, I built you a syllabus with only queer books. If I taught a queer class, these are the books that I would teach.

⭐Obie Is Man Enough by Schuyler Bailar
⭐ Forget Me Not by Alyson Derrick by @pucksandpaperbacks

queer lit personal curriculum part one 🌈📖✏️

I built you a personal curriculum with only queer books.

🌈 If I were teaching a queer literature class, these are four books I’d put on the syllabus:
⭐ Real Queer America by Samantha Allen
⭐ Here We Go Again by Alison Cochrun

🌈 Queer Books from A to Z - Letter M

Magical Boy by The Kao is a fantasy graphic novel featuring Max, a trans teen discovering he is the next magical girl. Yeah, this is a trans superhero graphic novel and it’s awesome! It’s also a duology. #queerbookstagram #queerbooksatoz by @pucksandpaperbacks

Books You Couldn’t Pay Me To…

As a trans guy who reads a lot of queer books, you couldn’t pay me to read, put down, or stop talking about these books!

ID: A series of five slides featuring books you couldn’t pay Alex to: pick up, put down, and stop talking about. Each caption includes the titles of the books mentioned. The title slide is an image of Alex, a white trans guy holding a paperback of “Cleat Cute” by Meryl Wilsner wearing a purple shirt. The text reads “Books you couldn’t pay me to.” End ID.

Pick Up

⚠️ Be civil in the comments or I will block & delete what doesn’t belong on my page.

A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara – I don’t need to subject myself to this devastating book.

Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid - As a die-hard hockey fan, I’m just really picky about reading hockey romance. 🤷

The House on the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune - You will never see me read or promote anything by TJ Klune. For this book specifically, he has stated he was “inspired” to write it about the Sixties Scoop. A horrific piece of Indigenous history. Read queer Indigenous authors instead.

Put Down

Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas, Lakelore by Anna-Marie McLemore, Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger, This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone, Mistakes Were Made by Meryl Wilsner, The Broposal by Sonoito Reyes.

Stop Talking About

Here We Go Again by Alison Cochrun, Pretty by KB Brookins, The Tea Dragon Society by K. O’Neill, The House of Now and Then by Edward Underhill, Icebreaker by A.L. Graziadei, Self-Made Boys by Anna-Marie McLemore.
