It was an absolute honour to once again be able to host in partnership with the British High Commission @ukinghana & Qirv @qirvgroup the birthday celebration of legendary photographer James Barnor @jamesbarnor this time for his 95th!!
In 2011 I met JB and was amazed by his photography and the span of Ghanaian eras and heritage he had captured. I was then almost immediately perplexed as to how such pictures mostly of Ghana (from 1940’s, including the actual day of Ghana’s independence in 1957) had never been exhibited in Ghana yet were being appreciated in major galleries and museums across the world. This led to myself and business partner Kofi Amaniampong @booksineffect_ assisted by @zandileblay organising the first exhibition of JB’s work in Ghana with a collection titled Ghana - A Heritage Ever Young, curated by myself and JB launched 29th June 2012 at the British Council and then moved to Silver Bird Lounge, Accra Mall, for free public viewing from 30th June to 2nd July 2012 with this very collection still being shown to date. The Quest to bring more awareness to such creatives, particularly in Ghana continues with the aim to inspire, empower and establish an inspirational, intentional, permanent place in history for generations to come.
