Qlemontine inspo Thursday!

This is one of my favourite houses, the cubist villa at the heart of the Majorelle Gardens in Marrakesh, commissioned by painter Jacques Majorelle in 1920. It’s like a jewel in a lush green crown, a vibrant recent addition to this ancient, earth-toned city.

I just love the cobalt blue 💙, it works perfectly with the yellow and mint green accents and the greenery all around. Majorelle himself developed the bold blue, inspired by Moroccan tile work and Berber outfits. He was so proud of it he named it after himself – “bleu Majorelle”.

He sold the place in the 1950s and it was eventually bought and restored in the ‘80s by fashion designer Yves Saint-Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé. The gardens are exceptionally kept to this day and house a fabulous collection of Berber jewellery and fashion, highly recommended if you’re ever in Marrakesh.

Lucky enough to have experienced Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirror Rooms twice — at the Tate Modern in 2022, and just this month at the Guggenheim Bilbao.

4 years apart -Still mesmerising. A beautiful legacy from an extraordinary artist. 🤍
