POSTS STORIES REELS

After Hurricane Helene flooded our home, we unexpectedly found ourselves gutting and renovating our entire first floor. Here are 9 design decisions I’d make all over again:

1. French doors + wainscoting. Adding french doors made our sitting room feel more intimate for hosting friends. It also doubles as a guest room now! The wainscoting added the architectural character I love.

2. A built-in kitchen hutch. One of my favorite additions! It feels timeless and collected, and gives me the perfect place to display cookbooks and glassware.

3. Beadboard backsplash. Instead of traditional tile, we chose beadboard for our kitchen backsplash. It adds so much warmth, texture, and charm, and I love how it feels like an original detail of our home.

4. Swapping a door for a window breakfast nook. Removing an unnecessary exterior door allowed us to create the sweetest little nook in our kitchen. Our kids sit here every day, and it feels like it was always meant to be.

5. Unlacquered brass hardware. A finish I’ll choose again and again. I love the warmth, character, and natural patina it develops over time.

6. A built-in pantry. We added pantry storage in our laundry room, just off the kitchen. Our home never had a proper pantry before, and now I genuinely can’t imagine living without one.

7. More hardwired lighting. Adding sconces throughout the house and additional recessed lighting in the kitchen was a no-brainer. Good lighting makes all the difference.

8. Checkered tile flooring. I wanted something a little playful while still honoring the traditional character of our colonial home and this did not disappoint!

9. Honed soapstone countertops. I’ve always loved natural stone, but wanted something unexpected in our kitchen. Soapstone has such a beautiful, lived-in quality, and I love that it’s both timeless and practical for our family with little kids.

Our goal was to bring our home back to life with thoughtful details that would make our house feel like home again. And I think we did just that. 🫶🏻

Lemon Chicken, Feta & Risotto Soup

This was a hit. Creamy, cozy, lemony, and gluten-free!

Ingredients:

* 2 tbsp olive oil
* 1 small onion, diced
* 2 carrots, diced
* 2 celery stalks, diced
* 3 garlic cloves, minced
* ½ cup Arborio rice
* 7 cups chicken broth, divided
* 2 cups cooked, shredded chicken
* ½ tsp oregano
* 2 handfuls baby spinach
* 2 eggs + 1 egg yolk
* ⅓ cup fresh lemon juice
* 1 tsp lemon zest
* ½ cup crumbled feta
* 2 tbsp fresh dill
* 1 tbsp fresh parsley
* Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. Sauté onion, carrots, and celery in olive oil for 5–6 min. Add garlic and oregano; cook 30 seconds.
2. Stir in rice for 1–2 min. Add 6 cups broth and simmer uncovered 18–22 min until tender.
3. Add chicken and spinach. Simmer 2 min. Add remaining broth as needed.
4. In a separate bowl, whisk 2 eggs, 1 yolk, lemon juice, and zest. Slowly whisk in 1–1½ cups hot broth to temper.
5. Remove soup from heat and slowly stir in tempered egg mixture. Add 2 tbsp feta, dill, and parsley.
6. Season to taste and serve topped with remaining feta!

Tip: Don’t boil after adding the tempered eggs! This keeps the soup silky and creamy. 🍋
