this wednesday will be my last official shift at offsuit. It’s an end of an era for me but it’s all in good fun. cheers to the absolute debauchery of the last 3 or more years I’ve spent there down the dirty alleyway. what a pleasure its been to meet everyone through this space and for there never being a limit to any of the weird and bizarre in this space. thanks to brian telling me about this job to an incredibly eager sam from almost 4 years and thanks to ryan for hiring me. it’s crazy to think we’ve traveled to across the country and across the world. come get a drink from ur local bar wench tomorrow and let me pour tequila down your trap by @radiicalruth
been reflecting on the craziness of this year so far and just feeling incredibly grateful for all the opportunities I have had. and I just can’t express how thankful I am for everyone in my life. much thanks to @punch_drink for the best new bartender nomination, still can’t really believe it. thanks for every person who has answered my million “why” questions but especially @briancallahan9 who I ask them daily to. & thanks to @residual_ink for giving me the opportunity to start doing craft cocktails and helping me bring to life all of my insane & bizarre event ideas (forever live on divorced dad bbq). of course thanks to @tweasus.cripes for making me want to be better and pushing me to be my best. here’s a weird mash of my year so far, see you hoes at bcb + tales this year by @radiicalruth
Meet Your Local Bartender! Sam Ruth Time within the industry: Been in the industry since I was 15, I might’ve smudged my age in my first restaurant job in Maine. (shhh) Since Covid is when I made the transition to behind the bar. Currently splitting my time between Darling and Offsuit. Formally worked at: Cut my teeth here in Boston at Row 34 in the Seaport and it’s been a bit of a whirlwind since then. Spent some time at Blossom Bar and then Zurito. Bio: I’m California born, spent all of my adulthood on this coast and have fallen in love with it. I went to college pursing a future in journalism (aka I’ve always enjoyed yapping!) but over time realized that wasn’t the correct route for me. It wasn’t until I met my mentor did it dawn upon me that bartending could he a career and a respectable future. Ever since then I’ve hit the ground running and have tried to pursue every opportunity I can find. My go-to shiftie will be a good pour of tequila and a twisted tea forsure. I hate making flips, don’t enjoy touching eggs in the middle of service and having to then extra clean my station. Such a shame they taste so good. It feels ironic to give advice to young bartenders when I don’t see myself too wise or experienced. But what I try to never forget is to be humble. You can learn something from everyone, or even just friendship and community. Ego is the death of many. Two superpowers I would want is definitely teleportation. I tend to overbook myself and if I could just teleport it would fix everything. I think the second would be invisibility. It just sounds tight. I love Gudetama, he’s a Japanese lazy egg. He’s really my kindred spirit. God this will seem odd but American Boy by Estelle is my karaoke song. It was one of the 5 songs I had on my IPod Nano and I bumped that shit constantly. by @radiicalruth
runner’s high here’s my submission for Condesa Gin Bloom & Decay Ritual Series, a love letter to the beautiful desert of Chihuahua. 2 dashes of Lacto-Fermented Corn Bitters .50 oz. Smoked Cactus Fruit Yellow Chartreuse .50 oz. Pistachio Yogurt Clarified Hibiscus Liqueur  2 oz. Condesa Prickly Pear and Orange Blossom  garnish : Hibiscus Spray and Prickly Pear Dust mix & stir inspired by the balance of bloom & decay, a game of beauty through two different lenses. when I think of this balance I envision the land of Chihuahua, where the blooms come at a higher rarity and decay has created ingenuity. Chihuahua is comprised of nearly 45% of desert, making it the toughest terrain to farm with only 5% of its land suitable for crops. my drink is a take on an Alaska, with Chihuahua being the northwest state of Mexico. my cocktail honors the rituals of bloom and the beauty found in decay with a respect to the rituals of the indigenous people of Chihuahua, Rarámuri people. hence the name the runner’s high, a group of people known for their long-distance running abilities. #CondesaRitualSeries #unetealritual by @radiicalruth
