A wee introduction to the kaupapa behind our @radiqalmovement x @the.joyful.movement video series 🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Our LGBTQIA+ and takatāpui communities deserve the opportunity to build a positive relationship with movement, their bodies, and their communities. We also believe movement can be a vehicle for holistic wellbeing, creating opportunities for joy, connection, self-expression, and belonging.

With the support of @mhfnz , we’ve had the privilege of capturing stories from people across our communities, exploring their unique relationships with exercise and sharing what movement can look and feel like for them.

In this wee introduction, @radiqalmovement ‘s @lauren.hartridge and @the.joyful.movement ’s @_rhi_rhi_rhion_ sit down for a kōrero ahead of the series. Take this as an official invitation to join us on this journey as we explore the many different ways movement can show up in our lives.

Through these personal stories, we hope to broaden understandings of what movement can look like, challenge dominant narratives around exercise that often exclude or alienate our communities, and create space for more affirming and joyful movement experiences where our communities feel a sense of belonging and are empowered to move on their own terms.

A huge ngā mihi to everyone who shared their stories and helped bring this series to life. We can’t wait to share them with you!

“It’s the blind leading the blind” ☀️🏳️‍⚧️🥾

Deep connection and love for te ngahere, wai and whenua is just one of many shared passions and experiences that has lead to an incredible friendship between Josh and Riley.

In this video, Josh and Riley share a glimpse into what movement looks like in their lives, how their experiences have shaped their relationship with exercise, and what it means to find ways of moving that honour their individual needs and fill their wellbeing cups.

Together, they explore navigating the world of movement as neurodivergent and gender-diverse people living with disabilities, and share the value of finding accessible, affirming spaces where they can show up as themselves.

Ngā mihi nui @outinaotearoa & @riley_and_rangi for sharing part of your stories and for continuing to show up in our community spaces with such generosity, kindness and leadership. You’re both awesome 💜

“Rolling on the floor, what I’ve always wanted to do” 🧑‍🩰

This community story spotlights an awesome human, local dance icon, and Radiqal regular, Zanetti ☀️

In this video, you’ll hear Zanetti talk about how their relationship with movement and their body has shifted over time, how movement has become a vehicle to finding community, and how affirming movement spaces have given them the opportunity to really sit within their sense of being non-binary 🏳️‍⚧️

Ngā mihi nui @zanetti__zanetti for sharing such a personal part of your story, for continuing to show up with your energy, and for helping create the kind of spaces where others can feel they belong too.

Introducing…Shayde 💃🪩

In this video, Community Leader and @gendaffirm Executive Director @shaydy_thats_me shares a little bit about their aroha for Zumba and how Zumba has become such an important part of their life and wellbeing.

As part of Shayde’s story, we were fortunate enough to dance alongside Shayde (and many others) and experience firsthand the joy and energy of a AZC Zumba community class in Manurewa, run by the wonderful @jfleming2013 !

Shayde’s story highlights the magic that can happen when exercise and community come together - creating reliable, regular spaces for connection, joy and belonging.

Ngā mihi nui @shaydy_thats_me for your vulnerability, support, and for welcoming us so warmly into your Zumba community!

Also a huge thank you to @jfleming2013 for welcoming us with open arms and gifting us with a Zumba experience we’ll never forget! 🙌

Last Sunday we hosted our @the_fluxion Community Binder Try-On Session at @cadencestudionz 🙌☕️

A bulk order of GYM fluxion binders has been made, and they’re on their way! We can’t wait to see more of our communities thriving in them 💪

Thank you so much @cadencestudionz for providing this lovely, warm space for us and our communities. And thank you @maiahall_ for the coffee and support 💜

Remember, use the code “RADIQAL10” for 10% of your next @the_fluxion binder, and keep an eye on our website & IG for our next try on session 🕺🏼 by @radiqalmovement

So, I’ve been doing PT with @radiqalmovement since February 2025, and today was our 61st session. Last session was my first full push ups; we’ve been progressing from on the wall, to on a bench, to a step, to knees for like a year and a half and now 💪 she strong with good form. Damn I love being a sporty trans butch gal 🏳️‍⚧️ by @radiqalmovement
