Water seems to dream a body.
It lends it an outline, long trailing threads, a restless transparency.

For a moment, it is hard to tell where the creature ends and what holds it begins.

The hand withdraws.
An oscillation remains, measuring the void.

In the blue, each return resembles the last.
Yet something slowly wears away:
distance, momentum, anticipation.

Even coming to rest takes time.

A small bell breaks the silence.

Its vibration enters another sound, another space, another rhythm.

For a moment, two different voices inhabit the same air.

Neither remains entirely alone.

And somewhere between them, a new way of listening begins.

In the blue darkness, everything seems to be waiting.

Water holds the light.
Metal holds the silence.
A hand moves, and something begins to change.

Nothing reveals its voice all at once.

Somewhere between the gesture and its consequence, another world becomes audible.

A fragile sound inhabits the glass.

A slight movement awakens it, and the air begins to tremble.

Something almost imperceptible takes shape, suspended between the gesture and its resonance.

For a moment, the smallest vibration seems to occupy the entire space.

Something returns to the same place, yet nothing is quite where it was.

The air has been disturbed. A vibration has faded, leaving behind the memory of its passage.

Each return carries the trace of what came before.

And somewhere between repetition and change, listening discovers a different sense of time.

The air remembers every passage.

A movement returns, again and again, tracing an invisible line through space.

Between one oscillation and the next, something changes. A distance, a vibration, the fragile measure of time.

And for a moment, even repetition seems capable of becoming something unexpected.

Some sounds seem to wait inside things.

A hand approaches, a small movement disturbs the air, and something begins to resonate.

Nothing is quite certain yet.
The gesture searches, the objects respond, and listening follows what neither could have anticipated.

A fragment from an ongoing exploration.

SILENCE IS

Not the absence of sound, but a space in which things become more perceptible.

In Mark Manders’ heads, matter seems caught between appearance and disappearance, permanence and fragility. The figures feel ancient and unfinished at once — as though time had stopped just before giving them a final form.

Silence lives there too: not as emptiness, but as suspension.

Manders and Raffaele Matta meet around certain questions: matter, suspension, silence, temporality, the vulnerability of form, and composition understood as a relationship between elements.

Not the same language.
Perhaps the same attention to what happens when things are allowed to remain unresolved.

GRAVITY

Some forces are heard before they are seen.

A gesture sets matter in motion.
Strings, surfaces and objects answer — each according to its own weight, resistance, resonance.

For a moment, gravity is no longer only what holds things to the ground, but what draws bodies, sound and matter toward one another.
