Job done. ‘Cloud’ in place. Many thanks to the production and installation team for their excellent work. Here are some initial shots taken against a bright blue, cloudless sky. (Unfortunately, that also means all the photos were taken in the harshest backlighting … well … best you check it out in person anyway.) Excerpts from the press release ‘Cloud’, a ceramic disc 9 metres in diameter, mounted on the external façade of the ‘Kreisarchiv Viersen’ (Viersen District Archives) facing the main road, is a sculpture that, in the most literal sense, is set in direct relation to the architecture. This not only ensures the unambiguous relevance of this sculptural ‘signature’, but also achieves a striking, eye-catching effect from a distance. The cloud motif creates a compelling triad between the stringent, hermetic building structure and the enigmatic, infinite and ever-changing natural expanse of the sky. The circular, ‘frozen’ visual motif stands in a dynamic relationship with the ever-changing sky, with which it sometimes ‘contrasts’ and at other times merges. From its backdrop—the archive building—it appears to cut out a section of the brickwork that it actually conceals, revealing a view of the ‘Cloud’. The term ‘cloud’ clarifies the key criterion behind the choice of subject matter, which addresses the future of archiving that is already unfolding. Here, as in other archives, the storage of digitised documents – or, increasingly, documents created as data sets from the outset – in the cloud represents current and future practice. We now all intuitively associate the English term ‘cloud’ with the storage of data and content, and the non-verbal image it evokes functions as a universal symbol. However, beyond the direct association relating to the building’s function, the visual representation also – and above all – opens up an abstract, poetic space for association, the richness of which extends far beyond the functionality of the archive and thus also addresses the complexity of the task and significance of institutional archiving. #kunstambau #sitespecificart #cloudart #ralfbroegstudios #ralfbrög @petrarinckgalerie by @ralfbroeg

A look back at my contribution to the exhibition “Gräser, Sträucher, Bäume” at the Petra Rinck Gallery in Düsseldorf, which ran from late January to early March. I created two new works especially for the exhibition; these respond to the exhibition’s theme (grasses, shrubs and trees) and form part of my series “Isolations”. Title image 1: „CS_Wilderness“, Title image 2: „GS_Meadows“. #isolationen #carlspitzweg #georgeseurat #postconceptualpainting #ralfbroegstudios by @ralfbroeg

GRÄSER, STRÄUCHER, BÄUME 24.01. - 07.03.2026 mit / with Johannes Bendzulla, Laurenz Berges, Ralf Brög, Tomas Kleiner, Rosilene Luduvico, Simone Nieweg, Albrecht Schäfer, Martin Schwenk, Jörn Stoya Eröffnung / Opening 23.01.2026, 18:00 - 21:00, Petra Rinck Galerie, Birkenstr. 45, 40233 Düsseldorf Pressetext: Grasses, shrubs, and trees are often associated in our minds with childhood memories, rural surroundings, and nature in general. At that time, our view of nature was relatively unclouded, as damage or destruction were not yet so apparent and we were far from wanting to know what the future held in store for us. Over the years, the nature surrounding us, as well as distant countries, has undergone significant change. Visible changes in our immediate environment, images from around the world, and constantly updated knowledge have become ingrained in our consciousness and changed our perspective. These changes and expansions are reflected in the artistic approaches of the invited artists and the media they use. The exhibition is an attempt to span the arc from naturalistic representation to recreated, interpreted images to free painting to digital illusions. @johannesbendzulla @laurenzberges @simonenieweg @albrecht_schaefer @jrstoya #petrarinckgalerie #artinduesseldorf #0211 #isolationen #ralfbroegstudios by @ralfbroeg
