Jean-Philippe Rameau - 2 Ouvertures: Hippolyte et Aricie & Temple de la Gloire ____________________________ Jean-Philippe Rameau (25 September 1683 – 12 September 1764) was one of the most important French composers and music theorists of the 18th century. He replaced Jean-Baptiste Lully as the dominant composer of French opera and is also considered the leading French composer for the harpsichord of his time, alongside François Couperin. Deux Ouvertures: 1. Hippolyte et Aricie (1733, rev. 43,57,67) 2. Rameau - Premier Concert in C Minor __________________________ Pièces de Clavecin en Concert, Premier concert for violin, viola da gamba, and obbligato harpsichord in C Minor 1. La Coulicam 2. La Livri 3. La Vezinet ______________________ Performed by Trevor Pinnock, harpsichord Rachel Podger, violin Jonathan Manson, viola da gamba *The Pièces de Clavecin en Concert, published in 1741, constitute the only chamber music by Jean-Philippe Rameau and were composed in full maturity; they came after his music for solo harpsichord, and just before les Indes galantes. They are very different from the trio sonatas in the Italian manner (such as those of Corelli), where the harpsichord is only providing the role of a continuo bass. In Rameau's works, the harpsichord is at the heart of the ensemble, playing a fully written-out obbligato part with virtuosity, with the accompaniment falling to the violin and viola da gamba. Rameau provided for differing instrumental combinations: the flute can replace the violin and a second violin can replace the viola da gamba. It is possible to compare these works with the violin sonatas of Johann Sebastian Bach, written earlier, around 1720, in which the melodic material is shared equally between the violin and harpsichord and the harpsichord part is obbligato nearly throughout. _________________________ https://www.youtube.com/@HARMONICO101 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Philippe_Rameau ______________________ #jeanphilipperameau #rameau #classicalmusic #baroquemusic #baroque #18thcenturyfrance #harpsichord #harpsichordconcerto #clavecin #concerto #concerts #keyboard #keyboardconcert by @rapazdevirgo

Georg Friedrich Händel - Concerto Grosso Op. 6, nº 9 in F major HWV 327 __________________________ The Concerti Grossi, Op. 6, or Twelve Grand Concertos, HWV 319--330, are 12 concerti grossi by George Frideric Handel for a concertino trio of two violins and violoncello and a ripieno four-part string orchestra with harpsichord continuo. First published by subscription in London by John Walsh in 1739, in the second edition of 1741 they became Handel's Opus 6. Taking the older concerto da chiesa and concerto da camera of Arcangelo Corelli as models, rather than the later three-movement Venetian concerto of Antonio Vivaldi favoured by Johann Sebastian Bach, they were written to be played during performances of Handel's oratorios and odes. Despite the conventional model, Handel incorporated in the movements the full range of his compositional styles, including trio sonatas, operatic arias, French overtures, Italian sinfonias, airs, fugues, themes and variations and a variety of dances. The concertos were largely composed of new material: they are amongst the finest examples in the genre of baroque concerto grosso. Concerto Grosso Op.6 No.9 in F major HWV 327 Movements: 00:00 I. Largo 01:29 II. Allegro 05:11 III. Larghetto 07:51 IV. Allegro 09:35 V. Menuet 10:55 VI. Georg Friedrich Händel - Concerto Grosso Op. 6, nº 10 in D minor HWV 328 _______________________ [00:00] I. Ouverture [02:26] II. Allegro [04:41] III. Air [07:53] IV. Allegro [09:57] V. Allegro [13:00] VI. Allegro moderato The tenth Grand Concerto in D minor has the form a baroque dance suite, introduced by a French overture: this accounts for the structure of the concerto and the presence of only one slow movement. The first movement, marked ouverture - allegro - lentement, has the form a French overture. The dotted rhythms in the slow first part are similar to those Handel used in his operatic overtures. The subject of the allegro fugue in 6/8 time, two rhythmic bars leading into four bars in semiquavers, allowed him to make every restatement sound dramatic. The fugue leads into a short concluding lentement passage, a variant of the material from the start. The Air, lentement is a sarabande-like dance movement of noble and monumental simplicity, its antique style enhanced by hints of modal harmonies. The following two allegros are loosely based on the allemande and the courante. The scoring in the first allegro, in binary form, is similar in style to that of allemandes in baroque keyboard suites. The second allegro is a longer, ingeniously composed movement in the Italian concerto style. There is no ritornello; instead the rhythmic material in the opening bars and the first entry in the bass line is used in counterpoint throughout the piece to create a feeling of rhythmic direction, full of merriment and surprises. The final allegro moderato in D major had originally been intended for the twelfth concerto, when Handel had experimented with the keys of D major and B minor. A cheerful gavotte-like movement, it is in binary form, with a variation (or double) featuring repeated semiquavers and quavers in the upper and lower strings. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concerti_grossi,_Op._6_(Handel) _____________________ #georgfriedrichhändel #handel #händel #haendel #baroquemusic #baroque #classicalmusic #concerto #consert #consertigrossi #consertogrosso #barroco #musicabarroca by @rapazdevirgo

BACH - PRELUDE AND FUGUE BWV 865 _______________________ Bach's BWV 865 is the Prelude and Fugue No. 8 in E-flat minor, from his collection of 48 Preludes and Fugues, also known as The Well-Tempered Clavier. The Prelude in E-flat minor is in a slow and mournful tempo, featuring a descending chromatic melody. It is constructed around a series of arpeggios and chord progressions, showcasing Bach's expressive and poignant writing. The Fugue in E-flat minor is in a fast and lively tempo and features a complex and intricate contrapuntal texture. It begins with a subject in the upper voice and is followed by a series of countersubjects and episodes. The fugue continues to build in intensity and complexity, leading to a powerful climax before resolving to a peaceful conclusion. The Prelude and Fugue in E-flat minor is considered one of Bach's most emotionally intense and musically challenging works in the Well-Tempered Clavier. It is often studied by advanced piano students and professional pianists, and is frequently performed in recitals and concerts. _________________________ @klapatas Prof. Kosmàs Lapatàs https://www.youtube.com/@KosmasLapatas/videos _______________________ #barroque #baroquemusic #grimaldi #grimaldicembalo #italianharpsichord #baroquemusiclovers #harpsichord #harpsichords #preludeandfugue #fugue #prelude #harpsichordsonata #keyboard #classicmusic #18thcentury #johannsebastianbach #bach by @rapazdevirgo
