This fabric had me at “Hello” part of a colab with @rarepatterns and @carolynquan.art

The colours the sketchy drawings everything I immediately loved

The advantages of having sewing friends in Aussie Cath @you_cansew otherwise I would have never known it existed

I’m the only one who had it shipped to the UK how special is that?

I did a poll on here to see which dress to make and the #InesDress @just_patterns won.

This was another pattern I bought instantly when it was released a few years ago.

Justine added the Sleeves extension later and I added a trim to ELAVATE also it was a necessity to get the length as I managed to squeeze it out of 2.5 metres of fabric.

You can watch how on my YouTube now

✨🧡A little shimmer, a lot of versatility 💜✨

Heirloom Grid in Berry Shimmer is back!

This one was such a favourite that it sold out quickly a while ago - so we just had to bring it back for one more round. 💛

Woven in beautiful linen, its purple and yellow yarns catch the light as the fabric moves, creating a subtle shimmer that makes this classic grid feel a little extra special.

Timeless enough for everyday pieces, with just enough detail to make them stand out. A fabric to wear and love for years to come.

@birdy_sew_obsessed made a stunning dress with this linen, it’s one of our faves 💕

Now available on preorder, with delivery expected in late October.

If Berry Shimmer was on your wishlist the first time around, here’s your chance to add it to your collection - you won’t regret it! ✨

When art becomes something you can wear. 🌸

Painterly Peonies linen fabric began as Carolyn Quan’s original Peony Studies - delicate, romantic blooms translated into a beautifully feminine floral print on 100% linen.

Soft, painterly and made for pieces that feel just a little bit special.

Brought to life by our beautiful sewing community, @made.by.kimberley & @beginner_threads and available as part of our limited fabric collection at Rare Patterns.

If romantic florals are your thing, this one might be for you. ✨

Bold prints can feel intimidating to sew with, here’s a few tips to help you feel more confident sewing and wearing bold prints.

1 | Statement fabric? Keep the silhouette simple and let the print lead. Think uninterrupted shapes, and considered placement of the print motifs or colours.

2 | Softer, romantic prints (like our Painterly Peonies) tend to suit flowier and more feminine style patterns. Adding small details like a ruffled edge or scalloped hem can enhance this look.

3 | Pair one printed piece with plain linen separates for an easy everyday look. You can even add a small contrast detail in the matching print to tie together multiple pieces - we love this look 🥰

🌸 Spring sewing doesn’t have to be complicated, sometimes it’s just about matching the fabric’s energy to the shape.

Which types of prints are you drawn to?
Bold or more subtle? Colourful or neutral? Floral or abstract?

Shop our fabrics online, exclusive designs in limited batches. That’s bold ♥️

Sometimes, a special fabric comes along that makes you feel like YOU are wearing a piece of art. Quite literally, because @rarepatterns ‘s newest collection features the stunning floral artwork of @carolynquan.art

I was gifted some of the “Punk Petals” fabric to celebrate the launch and it is the most luxurious, silky soft linen - the drape is divine!

And I have a discount code! Use AMI10 for 10% off your fabric order!

I intentionally chose a romper that was whimsical and playful with an ingenue like charm to pair with this fabric. The large scale painted florals grounds this, while the lavender hued base and fuchsia accents adds a sophisticated colour punch.

This is one of the rare times I’ve made a toile. The romper was drafted for someone 5’4, so I lengthened the rise by 4cms. The original design had a low scooped back which omitted the need for a zip or buttons, but it meant a bra would show. So I raised the back and added an invisible zip at the centre back. I also found the pocket openings not wide enough on the toile, so widened by 2cms. I opted to hand sew the bodice lining closed rather than topstitching for a cleaner finish.

One more thing - this is a French pattern! Old pal ChatGPT helped with the translation 😂

Introducing the gorgeous “Bountiful Joy” from @rarepatterns with artwork from the amazing @carolynquan.art ! This print is so delicious and on 100% linen, it’s destined to make stunning garments 🥹

I made my dress using Know Me 2126 and I’m so happy with it! I think the relaxed, summery cut fits perfectly with the floaty linen.

I have also posted a reel on my grid so you can see this loveliness in action 🩷

Bountiful Joy sold out super fast but it is available now for pre-order at Rare Patterns. Feel free to use my code BRIGETTE10 for a discount too.

Thank you Michelle for trusting me with this beautiful piece!

One year of Rare Patterns 🥹 a little heads up that this is a long post 💕

As I reflect on the last year, I realise that for me, Rare Patterns has never really been just about selling fabric.

It’s about building a community. Sharing beautiful artwork and quality fabrics with people who appreciate those same things. And, somewhere along the way, finding a part of myself that I’d lost a little.

I recently listened to a podcast about entrepreneurship where the host talked about that little girl who dreamt big and was full of confidence. It really hit home.

Because for as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to build something of my own.

I remember sitting at our local village fair with handmade gum leaf bookmarks. I made a friend’s formal dress. At uni, I screen printed and made cushions and tea towels to sell at handmade markets.

Then I finished uni and followed the path I thought I was supposed to take. I built a corporate career, becoming a senior designer and then a manager, thinking that climbing the ladder was the goal.

Until it wasn’t.

I left corporate work and started working with small, independently owned businesses, and something shifted. I loved working alongside women who had such strong visions for their businesses. I admired what they were building and soaked up everything I could.

But I still wasn’t satisfied.

I had a good job. Nice people to work with. A decent salary. I should have been happy.

But something was missing.

Then in 2025, with a couple of life things happening and turning 40, I started thinking much more seriously about what I wanted for the rest of my life.

Did I really want to spend my time helping build someone else’s business while admiring from the sidelines?

No.

I remembered that little girl again. The one who wasn’t afraid of anything. Who dreamt really big. Who wasn’t afraid to leave school at 15 to pursue a creative career in fashion and textiles.

So I decided to give her another chance.

And over this past year, I’ve gained so much confidence back. I’ve found pieces of that little girl again, and realised that maybe it really is possible to follow those big dreams.

It’s been one week since the Carolyn Quan collection launched, and what a week it’s been!!

Bountiful Joy has sold out, and we’re blown away by the response 💗

Thank you to everyone who has already bought a piece of this collection, we can’t wait to start seeing your makes!

We’ve made the decision to bring back Bountiful Joy for one more run. This will be the last print run for this design on our linen.

Usually, once a print sells out, that’s it. We keep our runs small and limited edition on purpose, because that’s what makes each collection feel special. But Bountiful Joy was simply too beautiful to let go of after just one week.

Available now for pre-order, with fabric arriving and shipping out by mid-November. Don’t miss out this time on this stunning fabric 😍🌸

The rest of the collection is also selling fast, so don’t miss out! Link in bio to shop the collection.

I still can’t believe I made this 😍 This beautiful linen gifted to me by @rarepatterns as part of the @carolynquan.art collection is such a stunning piece of fabric 💕

Usually I am so shy about taking photos in public and stick to my back yard or front door 😅 but this dress deserved a bit better. I popped down to the rose gardens in our town and unfortunately there was no roses blooming yet but I did find this one stunning cherry blossom tree that was calling me 🌸 Thankfully it was actually a windy and cold day so nobody was around 🤣

But I’m so glad to have captured it in all its stunning beauty 💗

Make sure to check out the collection and use my code KIMBERLEY10 to receive a discount ✨

✨Daisy Dress In Rare Pattern Fabric✨

Sometimes when beautiful fabric like this arrives, I want to just leave it untouched to admire (maybe for two years😂). Luckily with this launch, I had to get sewing! I’ve made my second iteration of the Daisy Dress which I think is a great match for this beautiful @carolynquan.art piece featured in the latest @rarepatterns Artist Series. I’m so excited with the dress because we have a lot of birthdays over the next couple of months so it’s been perfect timing to sew something special!

Sewing Notes:
🌸 I’ve sewn the size 14 again without any modifications. I love the easy fit of this dress especially with the inclusion of cup sizes. Measurements are 38:33:40.

🌸 This linen is a gorgeous quality. It was a perfect match for the puff sleeved version of the dress.

🌸 Tammy has great instructions for shirring the back bodice but I used the elastic version this time since I was already buying the same elastic for my sleeves.
