She hails from unceded Arapahoe, Ute, and Cheyenne territory (Northern Colorado) and now lives and loves on unceded Lenni-Lenape territory (Brooklyn). I have been rather nostalgic for Oxford. Not for the education whatsoever—for the architecture, my darling friends, and the simple fact I wasn’t working my office job. In my latest essay, I animate my antiwork sentiments through Dolly Parton’s kinky utopian femme-inism in 9 to 5 (1980), fangirling over Sophie Lewis @reproutopia (and her new book, Femmephilia), & writing without sex. Here’s some excerpts from the full piece! This was fun to write, even if it took a while. What started as film criticism ended up more like a love letter to two women I’m striving to channel in my spirit. This attempt comes through playing with a form that leads to the film through social encounters with text/art objects. I’m not sure if it works—let me know what you think, if you read it? 🔗 in bio (: by @raspberrypawpads
yui, baby, you should be here. you should be turning 31 today. you should be dancing and flirting and saying the stupidest shit i’ve ever heard. you should be in my arms. i should be crying from laughter not from grief. we should’ve been burning letters together on the rooftop under the full moon last night. it hurts so much to miss you. i feel you with me like the way you’d hold a speaker on my head so it’d vibrate just the right way so i could shake my ass better. you made life so much brighter than i thought it could be. i turned 22 with you. you turned 28 with me. you helped me move cities and turn 23. you spent your last weeks of 29 with me. you barely got to be 30. i don’t like growing older without you. i should be hearing all about your new year new me inspo board. last time i saw you you held up the bus to the airport so you could kiss me goodbye. i wish you would’ve taken your omamori with you. there’s so much i can’t understand. there’s so much i feel empty wishing for. i don’t know what to do with the gift of your life. you’d tell me what you always did: “just do shit, angel. life’s too short.” like you somehow knew what would happen. you always gave the best gifts. you still do. i’m more loving and selfish and sexy and powerful because of you. i just wish you were here to see it. i wish you were here to hear me read a poem about you to a room full of beautiful trans people you would’ve loved. i don’t know why im saying all this. i just can’t keep you to myself. i cant keep doing this by myself by @raspberrypawpads
my small collection “pushpin conchas” is out now with @fifthwheelpress as the twelfth installment of their pride microchapbook series! link in bio—download is free or pay what you can. 100% of funds i receive via donations for this collection will go to trans women as direct aid💗 “pushpin conchas” is a collection of seven poems i first drafted my senior year of college. they are a catalogue of gay boy moments sounded as my world first grew out from colorado to california and new york and back. publishing these poems as a woman all these years later is an unfolding, an old map with creases and highlights kept in a keepsake drawer i’m opening up. thank you to nat raum and @fifthwheelpress for selecting my work and for being such a stellar trans/queer indie press—i haven’t had any pubs out since before transition and im grateful to be getting back into sharing my work this way. knicks in five happy pride💙 by @raspberrypawpads
