A piece of Mane Street history, still carrying the mail 💌

The Pioneertown Post Office has changed homes over the decades, evolving from the storefront photographed here in the 1960s to its current location farther along Mane Street. The building may look different, but its role has stayed the same: connecting a small desert town to the world beyond it.

Then and now, the post office remains part of the daily rhythm of Pioneertown.

Traffic on Mane Street has always been a little unpredictable.

Restored scenes from On Top of Old Smoky, filmed in Pioneertown in 1953 near the Red Dog Saloon.
Back then, Mane Street was a working movie set, built for Westerns and regularly filled with actors, horses, wagons, stunt crews, and plenty of dust. Between takes, that same stretch of town became a gathering place for cast, crew, locals, and travelers passing through.
