The CENTER is a not-for-profit organization which is dedicated to providing arts experiences for people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds.
POSTS STORIES REELS
We are incredibly honored to have been voted the Hudson Valley’s Best Community Theater for the third year in a row. If you’re not familiar with everything that happens at The CENTER, here’s the thing: we rarely take a break. On 'dark' weekends between Main Stage productions, our Black Box space is often in performance. Our dance studio is active year-round. Just this summer, we ran nine weeks of summer camp with more than 25 different camps. During the school year we offer Kids on Stage programming and produce fully staged Main Stage productions through our audition-based Teens on Stage program, alongside a dedicated teen tech program. We welcome school groups and field trips, some of which we are able to provide at no cost. Our Saturday Morning Family Series introduces younger audiences and first-time theatergoers to the performing arts. And throughout the year, we host free community events, from yard sales and picnics to volunteer appreciation gatherings. All of this is made possible by a very small group of deeply committed and motivated people who believe The CENTER should be more than a place where you come to see a show. We believe it should be a place to learn, create, connect, belong, and feel part of something larger than yourself. We are incredibly proud of how far The CENTER has come over the past several years, particularly in the face of all the impactful loss and tragedy we have experienced. We know that building a stronger, more welcoming organization is an ongoing process and we are continuing to educate ourselves and hold ourselves accountable for how we serve our community. We are currently re-evaluating the accessibility of our building, recently CPR-certified our staff, participated in Autism Supportive Environment Training, and continue to seek out ways to be better informed and serve our entire community. Every year, thousands of patrons and hundreds of volunteers, performers, technicians, educators, board members, and countless others come through our doors. We are grateful to be here. We are grateful to be a part of this community. Thank you all for recognizing what makes The CENTER special. "See YOU at The CENTER!" by @rbkcenter
COME FROM AWAY continues this weekend 💙 by @rbkcenter
We are in the process of building our 2027 Black Box season and are still accepting submissions. If you’re a theatrical artist with something to say, we want to hear from you! For our Black Box, think intimate space, small casts, new work, solo performances, staged readings and workshops, and any other creative performative pursuit that could work in a space that is built for an up close and personal connection between audience and performer. As a reminder, our downstairs performance space is not meant to serve the same purpose as our upstairs Main Stage. These projects are self-funded or sponsored independently from The CENTER, designed with the knowledge that there is limited rehearsal time in the space, with minimal technical demands, and work well within the reality of a small flexible performance space. This is a space for creative-driven work without the bells and whistles of a fully-staged show. The CENTER is always a champion for traditional theatrical pursuits, but we are open to other forms of performance and creative uses of the space when the idea and our space are a good match. Please fill out our Black Box Proposal Form on our website and if you have submitted in the past and would still like your work to be considered, please reach back out so we know you still have an interest! by @rbkcenter
COME FROM AWAY opens tonight. 💙💛🇨🇦 by @rbkcenter
The musical “Come From Away,” which opens this Friday for a four-weekend run at the Center for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck, is based on real events that unfolded in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. But it’s quite unlike most stories that came out of that tragedy in two ways: It takes place more than a thousand miles from New York and the other sites targeted that day, and it is, in large part, a feel-good musical.
