A male friendship bookclub for men and masculine presenting people. A space to feel feelings, to be heard, and be seen.
POSTS STORIES REELS
The meeting for Luke Kennard’s Black Bag is in the bag! We loved discussing this one with y’all! We talked about ‘the crisis of masculinity’ and what that ‘crisis’ is. We talked about humanism and what it means to be a person in the modern age of capitalism. We talked about drapes and decorating, personhood and identity. We talked about symbols, and Batman, and when it’s time to say enough is enough. We talked about the process of making art and how AI robs us all of that. You had to be there. Be on the lookout for next year’s book, but we will be joining @book_and_bottle and their December book club for The Disappearers by Marlon James (12/3) to keep our Booker List reading going! Stay tuned for some Rainbros hangs down the line! by @reading_rainbros_stpete
At Angelo’s after a shift, and I’m thinking, what greasy Italian deli food pairs well with this one? I’m thinking a calzone…looks simple from the start, but when you open it up, there’s so much more than you first expected. (Should we start a food/book pairing???) Have y’all started Black Bag yet? We hear it’s hilarious. We hear it’s weird. We hear it will make the Shortlist for the Booker. But, what do YOU think? Let us know below, or…. Meet us on October 11th at @book_and_bottle from 10:00 to 12:00! Don’t miss out! by @reading_rainbros_stpete
The Rainbros like running things by the Book…the Booker Prize, that is! We’re getting literary for our next meeting. Black Bag by Luke Kennard is our next book club pick, and it’s been Longlisted for the 2026 Booker Prize, one of the most prestigious awards in contemporary fiction. But don’t let that scare you. This is a modern day absurdist comedy. Think Vonnegut meets MAD TV. A struggling actor is paid by a college professor to sit in a leather bag at the back of class. What happens next?? We meet October 11th! Doors at 10:00, discussion 10:30 to 11:45 @book_and_bottle by @reading_rainbros_stpete
The first meeting at @book_and_bottle was such a success! We had foundational Rainbros and brand new Rainbros alike - St. Pete Rainbros, Tampa Rainbros, and Rainbros who had only moved to town a week before! We talked about ‘commercial’ fiction and how, if a book is ‘inoffensive’, can it actually be considered capital G Good? We talked about cowardice and its definitions. We talked about science, and how fun books can kickstart people’s childlike wonder for how the world (and beyond) works. We talked about how books, inherently, are political, regardless if the author says so or not. We also talked about Rocky, of course. The Ultimate Rainbro. What a time, and what a perfect way to start a morning! And amazing photos courtesy of our guy, @sgdeleonyleon See y’all for our August 16th meeting! by @reading_rainbros_stpete
next book club - ready, set, go! we started off strong with our first book club @book_and_bottle (pictures to come!) and want to keep it rolling, so the next pick is a philosophic masterclass…. Man’s Search For Meaning by Victor E. Frankl! Meeting August 16th, Sunday! Doors open at 10:00 am, discussion starts at 10:15! by @reading_rainbros_stpete
Guys, we’re headed for the stratosphere! Yes! Your favorite male friendship book club has a home! Join us, June 7th, for our FIRST MEETING at Book + Bottle! Happening before store hours (10:00am to 12:00pm), we will meet to discuss our next book, Project Hail Mary! @book_and_bottle Copies are at the store to buy! We are so excited to have a final home, where we can really open up our ranks at book club, and welcome more Rainbros to the discussion. Tell your friends!! by @reading_rainbros_stpete
Kindred. You were a doozy. All agreed that it was a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read but it would be the first and last time. We discussed Butler’s style of bringing you in, the magic of her ability to make even the most vile into nuanced portraits of humanity, and discussed antebellum slavery and how and who it served. We discussed class, we discussed nature vs. nurture, and how Dana is one of the great female leads in literature. If you haven’t, read this book, y’all! Stay tuned for the next book choice and what our next Rainbro outing will be! Also, shout out to our three new members!!! by @reading_rainbros_stpete
OUR NEXT BOOK CHOICE Not one to miss. Octavia Butler paved the way for Black female writers, for a view of science fiction that included way more than the centralized white male narrative, and became prophetic with works like Parable of the Sower. We are excited to dive into our next read, available soon at Book and Bottle! We will meet at 6:00 pm on April 18 at @pistilhouse Also, this week; we hosted our first SMASH BROTHERS RAINBROS HANG. ‘Twas special. We had pizza rolls, themed drinks (Donkey Kong Punch went wild) and a Kirby free for all! by @reading_rainbros_stpete
another book in the…well, books!! we talked about the genre, our dating lives, how to get more men to read romance (and in general), Richard Gere, editing exposition, trauma, and always, so much more! we also started a What’sApp to better communicate what is coming up next for the group! DM to be added! stay tuned for the next outting! by @reading_rainbros_stpete
Our next book! February is the home of Valentine’s Day, and so we decided on a romance book - because, bros love love too! We’re talking at 6:00 on 2/28! DM for location! by @reading_rainbros_stpete
In a world getting harder to celebrate, we need to look for moments of communal frivolity; joy as fuel. So lucky this past weekend and to be silly when we needed it most. We trusted each other with first experiences, with literally holding our safety in their hands, and engaged with each other in a different space than normal. Huge thanks to Karl for helping us get in, and to every Rainbro who came out! Be on the lookout for our next book announcement! by @reading_rainbros_stpete
excited to see some bros for our first hang (get it) of the year - we wanted to get to know our fellow Rainbros in different settings, and add some whimsy and frivolity to our lives in ‘26, so let’s CLIMB SOME THINGS This Saturday at @verticalventures DM for more details! by @reading_rainbros_stpete
