Dyslexia therapists ask me all the time:

“But do parents actually want online dyslexia therapy?”

Yes. But you have to know how to sell it.

And selling it does not mean convincing every parent that online is better than in-person.

If a family is surrounded by amazing dyslexia therapists and can easily have someone come to their home, let them choose in-person.

Your job is to find the families who need online because of access, distance, travel, scheduling, or simply not having a qualified dyslexia therapist near them.

Then? You have to remove their fears. (Thank you Pandemic PTSD)

Because most parents aren’t saying no to you.

They’re saying no to what they THINK online teaching looks like.

If they say:

“My child has ADHD. There’s no way they’ll sit at a computer.”

You say: I use games, movement, manipulatives, and frequent changes in activity.

If they say:

“I don’t want to sit next to my child for the entire lesson.”

You say: You don’t have to. I build independence from day one.

If they say:

“My child is already on technology all day.”

You say: The screen is simply what connects us. I replicate the in-person experience using the same materials, books, handwriting, games, movement, and structured literacy instruction.

That’s sales.

You listen to the objection, understand the fear underneath it, and show the parent how your expertise solves it.

And this is exactly why online teaching is a skill.

It is NOT opening Zoom, sharing your screen, and doing exactly what you did in person.

You have to learn how to teach the wiggly six-year-old.

How to build independence.

How to use low-tech materials online.

How to incorporate movement.

How to communicate the value to parents.

I’ve been teaching little wiggly kids online since 2019 and helping dyslexia therapists develop these skills since the pandemic.

The problem isn’t that parents don’t want online.

Sometimes the problem is that we haven’t shown them what excellent online dyslexia therapy actually looks like.

Stop trying to convince the families who don’t need it.

So thankful for the dyslexia experts who have already chosen themselves for 2026.
Who are already saying goodbye to Sunday scaries… and hello to a very different kind of life.

They chose appreciation over exhaustion.
They chose freedom without walking away from the work they love.
They chose themselves.

I’m so excited to be in the Zoom room with this group.

And if you’re watching this thinking, “I want that kind of Sunday,”
it’s not too late to join us for September 💕👩🏻‍💻

PS yes you can empty your dishwasher in between your online lessons 😉

Parents aren’t impressed by flashy platforms and endless apps. They’re frustrated by them. What they actually want is a teacher who can hold a child’s attention for 60 minutes, keep the lesson in their control, and minimize the behavioral upsets and boredom that come from screens doing too much of the work.

That’s where teachers like Brandi Dougal @brandi_marie111 come in.She went from classroom teacher to Shark Tank with a dream, and built games that are genuinely engaging, not overwhelming. That’s exactly the difference parents are looking for.

There’s a huge gap between “pandemic online” (the version everyone remembers as a nightmare) and true one-on-one, low-tech, effective teaching. Reach and Teach is built on that second version: 1:1 instruction for struggling readers, minimal tech, and games that actually work.

There are so many layers to this question… this is why it is so important to understand sales as somebody with a private Dyslexia therapy biz. Sales is always going to involve one of two objections a time objection or a financial objection. You need to address those objections and then point to the benefit of their family problem. by @readtorewire

📣Dyslexia therapist and practitioners! Please stop with your limited mindset. You are worth it. You just need to find the families that believe that too. You should not have to convince anybody of your worth. PS $200 is a 4 bags of groceries. #dyslexiapractitioner #mindset #yourworthit by @readtorewire
