This is your sign to donate, swap, or sell your old or unused winter sports gear while it's in season! Plus, check secondhand for new stuff: You can often find used skates, skis, boards, and boots at pro shops, in online marketplaces, at secondhand stores, and in local gifting groups.

There's snow ❄️ better way to keep good gear in use! 💵

So, what does that "flammable" label mean? 🔥

The product can be easily ignited and cause fires. Stay safe:

✅Store it in a cool, dry, ventilated place (avoid temps over 80 degrees)
✅Keep it away from heat and direct sunlight (never leave it near the stove or in your car!)
✅Keep it away from other hazardous materials (chemical reactions can cause fires)
✅Take it to a household hazardous waste collection site or event to dispose of it (NEVER put it in your recycling!)

Sorting and eating your loot? 🍬 Avoid the Halloween horror story of candy wrappers in the recycling bin—they are NOT recyclable. They may be plastic, but not the kind we’re looking for.

Never fear: Check what you can recycle in seconds at RecycleSmartMA.org

The last one is probably our favorite... it's positively smashing. 🎃

But, really: When your jack o' lantern is done being a decoration, compost it in your backyard compost, with a compost service if you've got one, or at a local event. They don't belong in your recycling bin, but they are too good to be trash!

Don’t be surprised by what is in your medicine cabinet. If you haven’t used them, don’t need them, or they’re expired, drop them off at a #TakeBackDay collection site. www.DEATakeBack.com by @recyclesmartma

Pizza boxes are recyclable. Pizza isn’t.

Avoid the horror of wasting a perfectly good slice... and contaminating your recycling. 😱🍕 Make sure that box is empty before you put it in the blue bin. Some grease on the box is OK.

When in doubt, visit RecycleSmartMA.org to see what to recycle.

Avoid paranormal bag-tivity by keeping plastic bags OUT of your recycling bin. They get stuck in equipment at the materials recovery facility, causing disruptions and safety hazards. Be a plastic bag ghost-buster: 👻🚫 Take them to a retail drop-off location, reuse them, or put them in the trash.

Grab your friends, family, and neighbors, because this year's #InternationalRepairDay theme is: Repair brings us together! All across the state, there are repair cafés, fix-it clinics, mending circles, and other repair gatherings that help us meet others, swap skills, and get empowered to fix stuff.

Now is the perfect time to repair stuff you've been putting aside this year! Search for a fix-it clinic or repair café near you, or just get a group together to work together with some DIY videos: link in bio.

We all have THAT drawer of old electronics and cords. 👀 Cleaning it out is easier than you think! Bring them to an e-waste collection. Check with your city or town, or search our Beyond the Bin tool to find options near you: link in bio.

Remember, these items do NOT go in your recycling bin. 🚫

❗Avoid having mystery bottles under your sink and in your storage! If you find yourself storing leftover liquids in new containers, make sure you properly label them with the product and expiration date to keep your family safe from confusing one product for another.

🚫 Do not put containers with hazardous products in them in the recycling or trash. Check for local events and facilities that collect household hazardous waste.

*Note for you eagle eyes, this “recycling bin” has “bin” retired to storage use only.

Frightening: Buying a Halloween costume online that'll only get worn once.😨 Enlightening:

🎃Checking the thrift store for secondhand costumes or items to make an original costume.
🎃Shopping your own closet to make a costume with clothes you already own, or rewearing the same costume more than once.
🎃Seeing if your community does a costume swap (some local farmer's markets have them!).
🎃Crowdsourcing costume items from local online gifting groups.

Tell us your best low-waste DIY or thrifted Halloween costume in the comments!
