This 74 year-old who, as a 20 year-old, campaigned for George McGovern, has a pair of tear-filled eyes on this Election Day a.m., yet again, because of HOPE for our country, + GRIEF for our country.

Last week we saw the special exhibit, Women Impressionists and the Land, at the St. Louis Art Museum.
Impressionism was a French movement that occurred between the late 1860s + the late 1880s.
Claude Monet’s haystacks series is very famous; this example was painted by Monet’s stepdaughter, Blanche Hoschede Monet.
It was interesting to learn that they often worked side by side, painting the same images.
I had never seen a black + white Impressionist work; this charcoal drawing is by Marie Bracquem.
It’s probably not technically Impressionism, I don’t think, but it was interesting.
A well-known artist, American born Mary Cassatt, wasn’t really an Impressionist but was friends with them + did exhibit with them.
That’s one of her pastel drawings of a child; I do love these because I’ve worked with pastels + portraiture.
What I didn’t expect to see was an urn that was decorated by Cassatt.
She did some work in ceramics, but this is the only one that survives, + I was fascinated with it!
Another well-known Impressionist, Bertha Morisot, experimented in pottery design, too, + her vase is in the last photo.
The exhibit was beautiful + informative; we went on “free Friday”, so the galleries were packed, which made reading the descriptions a little tricky.

My birthday, in past years, + today, when I turned 74.
2018 - our wedding, after a 20-year engagement
2022 - a beach stroll on Lake Michigan, in Holland, MI, with Chloe the Dachshund
2024 - fun with Chloe in Nashville, Leiper’s Fork + Franklin, TN
Today - a road trip through Alton, birthplace of Miles Davis, to @explorepml Pere Marquette State Park, driving along the most scenic highway between the Mississippi River + towering limestone bluffs.
When we returned home, we walked up the hill to @sneakysburgers + shared a delicious Mrs. Apple Bottom burger + sweet potato tots. 🍎

3. ME: I’M A CARDINALS FAN + AM LOVING THE BREW CREW + HOPING THEY WIN IT ALL by @redbirdkay52

Milwaukee’s beloved radio announcer Bob Uecker was w the Cardinals when they defeated the NYY in the 1964 World Series.

He + Bob Gibson decided to hold hands in the team photo, which was hilarious, even to the otherwise ferocious Gibson, (who was actually very funny + quite the prankster!)

Go Brewers! ⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️

Maga’s buzzword to scare their base in the midterms is the word SOCIALISM.
They don’t know what it is, but they “know” it’s bad.
Here’s what it is: Democratic socialism was what FDR did to save America from the depths of the Depression.
Think programs like Social Security, later Medicare + Medicaid (thanks, LBJ) + then remember that the gop called them socialism back then, too!

PLOT TWIST

We had just begun planting 200+ spring bulbs, only to discover this a.m. that one or more of our resident varmints had dug them up + eaten them!

Turns out critters ♥️ bone meal, which we added like crazy, but who knows? - it might have been just the bulbs.

At any rate, we are raising the white flag of surrender.

Instead, I shall settle for the joy of forcing paperwhite bulbs INDOORS inside my chunky glass @potterybarn glass jar.
