“The brother I met in Florida” ///////// The Brother I Met in Florida documents a week spent with my brother and his family in Florida. Although we share the same father, I had never met him in person until this trip. My father died when I was five years old. Because of that loss, parts of my family existed only as stories. I grew up as an only child, and for most of my life, my brother was someone I vaguely knew about but didn’t truly know. At 23 years old, I finally worked up the courage to send him a message introducing myself and asking if we could meet someday. To my surprise, he immediately welcomed me. A few months later, he invited me to Florida to meet him, his wife, and my niece and nephews for the first time. Rather than focusing on the event of the reunion itself, the work examines what it feels like to enter a family that had already formed without you. The camera became a way of navigating familiarity and distance at the same time. by @redc0uch

Thank you for everyone who showed up😛😛 I moved to the U.S. when I was 16, and my experience of immigration has been shaped by both my own life and my mother’s. The title of this project comes from something she once said: “All the world is my country.” This series is made of portraits of immigrants living in the U.S. from Eastern Europe, the West Asia, the Balkans, and Latin America. I spent time with them, listened to their stories, and photographed them in the spaces where they spend most of their time. Through this work, I wanted to make visible the people who are often overlooked, those who exist between cultures, and who are not always fully seen or understood. by @redc0uch
