An office-sized N scale train layout in progress. 66” X 29” built to fit through a doorway. My story: I started to build an N scale train layout when I was in middle school in the 1980’s. I lost interest in high school and sold all my trains to buy climbing gear. I recently saw an N scale starter set on sale and picked it up for my office at the school where I work. I set it up in a circle on my desk and that was all I was going to do with it. Weeks later a student and his aide stopped by to drop something off in my office—a student who I had not heard speak in the last three years. He looked at the train on my desk and exclaimed, “A train! A train! A TRAIN!” He was so excited that he would not stop talking. When he left, I decided it was time to build a layout and fulfill my own childhood dream. He stops by my office frequently to check it out with other students and will watch the train go around the track for as long as he has time. That’s model railroading at its finest! by @redrockrail

Yellow cottonwoods along a riverbank in a red rock canyon is always something to behold. I wish autumn would linger a while—but it will here. I’ve been wanting to switch out the cottonwoods on my layout since last winter. #redrockrail #modelrailroad #trainlayout #nscale #trains by @redrockrail
It’s been a while—I’m just coming out of my busy outdoor field program season at school. It was time to re-thread the climbing rope on the tower. Here’s the process. It is a little tricky to film with one hand and work the tweezers with the other! #train #nscale #redrockrail #modelrailroad #rockclimbing by @redrockrail
It’s the first day of school and that means this train is rolling again! “Well, pistons keep on churnin’ And the wheels go ‘round and ‘round!…. Where would you be right now without love?” 🎶 @doobiebrothersofficial #nscale #trains #modelrailway #trainlayout #redrockrail by @redrockrail

I interrupt this hiatus for a mid-summer reel. I stopped into the office today and decided to take the train for run around the tracks. I also added a boulderer with a crash pad. Let’s go climbing! #Redrockrail #Train #modelrailroad #nscale #bouldering by @redrockrail
