Artemis II 🌕 and all my fragmented thoughts about it as we sit here on our spinning rock, formidable to no one but ourselves. what is it to be human if not curious? brutal, killer. and yet somehow calm. soft. there are the small, oddly tender details of the whole thing. like the fact that they took photography classes just so they could bring it back to us. like, “here, look at this cool rock I found. it’s for you.” holding hands in zero gravity and crying, tears floating away, for what? love. love is the most powerful thing… you can say it’s the most “powerful thing on earth,” but there is no limit to where love exists. it transcends time and space. the moon knows this. in all her whimsy, in all her color, in her one-sided drag path toward earth. … yes, i meant it when i said to the moon and back. the universe is impossibly vast, and somehow we left one tiny rock to visit another. and it felt like everything. it is. everything. they disappeared behind the dark side for forty minutes. no contact. kind of like us. except they came back around. but time is different in space. love isn’t. something about all of this feels very quiet and very loud at the same time. maybe that’s what it means to be human. to be small enough to fit inside the universe and still love something big enough to cross it. i see myself in her. in her whimsy, in her color, in her joy. in the pursuit of knowledge. in the humanity of it all. the moon and i, maybe we are one and the same. by @reflectingelements
