“We are not just guardians, we are multipliers”
- Julia Yawanawá

Our mothers, grandmothers, and ancestors were not simply growing food. They were cultivating continuity.
Every seed saved was a rememberance, and every seed shared was an act of generosity.

And now, we become part of that lineage.
We are not the owners of these seeds. We are their multipliers.

We take what was entrusted to us, help it grow, and pass it forward, hopefully with more diversity, more abundance, and more life than we received.

Seeds tell us that our role is not to possess life, but to participate in its continuation.
The work of our mothers lives in the soil, in the harvest, and in every seed we choose to carry forward.
What we inherit, we have the opportunity to multiply.

Some of the most important lessons aren’t learned in a classroom.
They are learned by watching the seasons change.
By feeling the soil, following water, planting and harvesting.

Nature teaches us that knowledge is living, it is gathered through observation, tested through practice, shared through relationship,

It moves from elders to children, from teacher to student, from one generation to the next. It moves between neighbors, communities, species, and landscapes. Communities become more resilient when knowledge is held collectively.

Knowledge becomes living when it is practiced and shared.

Ecological knowledge is inseparable from culture. It lives in stories, songs, language, ceremony, seasonal practices, and the everyday acts of tending land. When knowledge is passed on, it does more than preserve the past.

It prepares the future.

What one generation learns through the land, another can carry forward.

Featuring local school teacher to Mutum, João Yawanawa.

A tree changes far more than the place where it is planted.

It is the beginning of restoring relationships, between soil and water, shade and sunlight, wildlife and habitat, people and place.

In agroforestry systems, trees become the foundation of resilience.

In the Amazon, every tree planted is an investment in the future, not only for the families who steward the land, but for one of the world’s most important climate-regulating ecosystems.

Healthy forests support the ecological processes that sustain life far beyond the forest itself.

Every tree is a promise.

A promise of food. Healthier soils. Greater biodiversity. Stronger communities. And a future rooted in regeneration.

Ethnoecologist, ecological designer, artist and storyteller. Co-founder of People of the Forest.

Timo Granzotti weaves together ecology, culture, design, and Traditional Ecological Knowledge into living systems rooted in reciprocity and regeneration. Through agroforestry, ethnobotany, whole-systems design, and biocultural education, his work explores the deep relationship between people, land, and community.

From forests to community learning spaces, his teaching invites a reimagining of resilience — not as extraction or control, but as participation within living systems.

Cultivating landscapes that nourish biodiversity, cultural memory, and collective futures.

We’re sharing an early look at one of the animation pieces we’re creating for our documentary. Every frame is hand drawn by our animator @Hannah.sson. For the full cinematic version, go to dyingtolivenow.com

Featuring RamDev Dale Borglum, who has accompanied thousands through grief and loss. He shares how grief can reveal the riches that live in the depths of our being.

I’ve (Aurora) learned so much through Dale and in the making of this film. There’s been inexplicable comfort and peace from this investigation. Grief is not the enemy. This film sits alongside you reminding that you’re not alone, love is here, and even grief can be a doorway.

Thank you for being a part of the making of this film ❤️

Chief Rasu Yawanawá recounts a powerful story that his grandfather, the great chief Tatá, received through a vision and brought to his people.

The Kairau is a story that shares the importance of preserving their culture, music, memories and customs, and ultimately, how to care for their forest home.

Speaking from under the Samaúma tree where the Kairau festival is held (June 10th - 25th), hundreds gather to dance, to celebrate and to remember the roots from which they came.

Filmed by @reforestfilms

🎥 We love this moment from our filming with Dale so far. He shares meaningful insights on how to work with grief and to be present with it, while not getting lost in it.
Thank you to David Neptune @tunetown for capturing this interview. by @reforestfilms
