Hand built Workstation and Gaming Computers in Las Vegas, NV. This page is focussed on the casual side of my business and my adventures.

$Shipped this beast of a build to a new client. Before this one even shipped, they had already ordered another! The system was received Monday, giving their IT team time to get it set up for a new hire who started this Friday. Always nice when the timing works out that well. I normally don't care much for RGB lighting on workstations, but the lighting module included with the Fractal Meshify 3 XL is actually quite nice! It's programmed through their web app and has onboard memory, so it technically doesn't need to remain connected to a USB 2.0 header once configured. I also have to say, I've become a fan of the Noctua 360mm AIO. It's impressively quiet, even under sustained stress testing, while delivering lower temperatures than other AIOs I've used. This is my second installation, and both have impressed me. I think there may be something to their offset mount. I just can't wait for them to start shipping with the black fans. When they launched, they anticipated Q4, we'll see. I was hoping to build these live!

This Eluktronics Hydroc16 G2R barebones system, powered by an Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX and RTX 5080, was outfitted with 64GB of DDR5 memory and a 1TB NVMe SSD.

Before shipping this batch of three, I decided to spend some extra time validating a new set of drivers I have been testing. That meant the systems didn’t go out quite as quickly as I had originally planned, but I’d rather take the extra time to validate everything than rush systems out the door.

Five more Hydroc16 G2R systems with RTX 5070ti GPUs are still in the queue. Hopefully it works out that I can do those live on stream.

It's me!

It is Saturday night, wife n kids are out of town having a blast. Being self employed is hard work but thankfully I love what I do, no other way I could be working this late on a weekend otherwise.

Was doing a little house keeping on my personal system this morning, thought it would be a good opportunity to put the Sliger S640 (in yellow) next to my Meshify 2 Compact for a size comparison.

The one thing where the S640 stands out, it can fit an RTX 5090, a 360mm AIO and an EATX/CEB motherboard. Pretty insane. For PSU you have to basically stick to 1200watt due to the plug options on the S640. Hopefully they can resolve that limitation soon.

Fun stuff going on this week! @amd sent over some parts to test in the yellow builds I have been doing for a client. Also, the 99wh batteries arrived so I can get back on track with the two laptop orders I have here. by @remiscs

Ouch... this one stings a little but this is a life lesson I try to teach my boys. It is easy to be a hero when all is well, you really how your character when challenged. That is when your commitment to doing the right thing is tested. That said, I'm starting to think this workstation is cursed 🤪

A little history: the system is almost three years old and had been running flawlessly. The customer shipped it to another office, arrived dead, the motherboard failed. I replaced it under warranty, put the system through a full round of stress testing, and everything looked perfect before it left my shop.

Then it arrived at the customer... and once again, it wasn't booting. After working through the troubleshooting, it appears the graphics card failed somewhere between leaving here and arriving at its destination.

It's an incredibly unusual situation, but I have seen more unusual situations back when I was at Mercedes Benz troubleshooting those computers on wheels.

Since there aren't any good replacement options available for an RTX 4070ti right now, I'll be sending an MSI RTX 4080 SUPER from my inventory instead. It's currently on the test bench, and everything is looking great.

Given everything this system has been through, I'm also sending a new power supply. I don't believe it's the culprit, but at this point I'd rather eliminate every possible variable than leave the customer wondering.

Sometimes you run into a situation that simply doesn't make sense. When that happens, the only thing you can do is keep working on the problem, take care of your customer, and make sure they end up with a system they can depend on. by @remiscs

Yesterday was the first time I ever did a stream with my boys! Man, being a dad is so awesome!!! I love it!

I grabbed this screenshot of our last match while live, one of my boys carried the team. Logan and myself were eliminated, Ethan carried with 9 players left. The 1v1 in the last moments of the match were intense which called for a big celly.

This may just look like gaming to some, but to me it was teaching them a little bit of broadcasting. I can't wait to stream with them again, with hopefully much better audio, but I want to encourage their curiosity rather than dismiss it for traditional careers.

This was also a major step forward to getting the setup ready for live builds! I have an order of laptops that will be arriving this coming week, I may do a short stream getting them built out.

Stream machine is up and running, took me down memory lane!

Last time it was even on was 07/31/23 and the last streamed build was a 12700k system.

So maybe I can add HVAC Technician to my list of skills now? 🤔

Friday morning I woke up at 3am to an 82F indoor temp. Our AC system was acting up, the condenser fan and compressor would not spin. Raising the temp on the thermostat and then dropping it again got it working again. This was now the second time the unit did this. Later around 7am it did it again.

The HVAC tech came out around 11am, of course it worked when came out but they were nice enough to not charge the service call fee. They recommended waiting till the issue was more repeatable since there was no clear culprit. Considering we have been over 100F all week and humid, it was a concern.

Of course it went hard down Friday around 5pm, when they couldn't make it out until Saturday morning, my trick to get it working was no longer working. That is when I decided to dive in.

The capacitor was 1-2 years old but the contactor was original and 8 years old. I was able to get it working so I could test resistance on the contactor tips, I got lucky enough to catch the contactor get stuck closed, especially after inspecting the tips, it looks to have been the issue. Replaced the capacitor and contactor for less than $75.

Been a few days now and zero issues. Hoping that is all it was.
