Hand made ceramic tumblers
.
Grabbed this group shot a couple months ago before shipping them out when I had my last drop. Featuring the (new) great blue heron design, plus venus fly traps, sharks, outer space, octopus, and sarracenias with frog.
.
I am have since been working up a whole bunch of new pieces and am about to start getting into glazing soon. All of these tumbler designs and more are on my to do list.
.
Additionally, I have tea bowls, bowls, planters, jars, mugs, wall tiles and ornaments in the works. I’ll keep y’all posted on what’s new as things develop in the studio!🧡 by @renee_lopresti

Watching the colors bleed…

Adding food coloring to white glaze is easily one of the most satisfying parts of this glazing process. Because glaze applies [and dries] white on white, this little trick is the only way I can actually see my placement with each layer! I apply three layers of white glaze to the inside of the cup and alternate the food colors: red-green-red.

This trillium mug design is a new favorite of mine. It’s a shift from my usual style; where I let different glazes touch directly to create that mottled, variegated leaf texture. 🌿✨

Which part of the pottery process do you find most satisfying to watch?

Y’all spoke, I listened! 🐙 After sharing my original octopus mugs a few months ago, many of you suggested shifting the palette to match the realistic tones of a Giant Pacific Octopus and its environment. What do you think of the new glaze combo?
.
Here is the exact glaze process that brought your feedback to life:
.
🧡The Orange Blend: I formulated a precise line blend of Mayco Stroke & Coat glazes using Hot Tamale and Jack O’Lantern at 4:1, 3:2, 1:1, 2:3, and 1:4 ratios. I added a tiny drop of Cotton Tail white to each batch to maximize opacity and brightness.
.
💜The Test Tile: I brushed 3 heavy coats of each ratio over a custom vinyl stencil onto a bisqued plum purple tile.
.
💙The Deep Water: Once the orange was finalized , I picked a deep, dark greenish-blue (Mayco Blue Grass) for a final design test on a rectangular tile. Watch until the end to see closeups of how the finished mugs turned out. A huge thank you to my community for pushing this design to the next level.🙌 by @renee_lopresti

Bowls are coming back 🍚
.
i have been slowly introducing bowls to the lineup of pottery forms that I make. This time around i have several that are finished. Like the teabowls, they are challenging forms to make the pattern sensibly wrap under the hip and foot area, but hopefully that extra effort will be an appreciated surprise when at eye level in the cupboard, or upside down after being washed.
.
I am currently putting together my preview newsletter, which will be sent out on Thursday by midday. If you want to join the list, go to the bottom of my websïte hōmepage. by @renee_lopresti

🌸 The mugs are [almost] ready!🌸
.
And yes, i do sit for hours😂 But fortunately the last few months have also involved SO much outdoor time tending to the flowers as they start to awaken from their winter slumber. It’s all about balance, right?
.
Here are some little closeup shots of all of my floral themed mugs: Passion flower, Lotus, Checkered Lily, Begonia, Orange Blossom, Nasturtiums, Bird of Paradise, Sarracenia, and Hoya Flowers.
.
I’ll drop a count down in my stories, but these are going up this Saturday! 🗓️ by @renee_lopresti

🏺 Jars 🏺
.
New jars from my last firing. I made my first round of these small lidded jars last year. They would be the perfect size as a salt cellar, but also for small trinkets, jewelry, loose leaf tea, etc. After several requests to bring them back, here are 6 more that are coming on June 6th.
.
The nasturtiums, orange blossom and venus fly traps are a revisit. While the outer space and begonias designs have been newly revamped to work with this jar form.
.
The sides (and bottom of course) are decorated as well, but i just love how each lid is like a little vignette or painting on its own. 💛 by @renee_lopresti

Teabowls 🫖
.
Here is the whole lineup! I’ve been slowly reworking my existing designs to accommodate this new form. This tea bowl is particularly challenging; getting the pattern to wrap over the lower hip that drops and tapers toward the foot. But it is oh so gratifying once I am able to get it to line up just right!
.
All in all, i now have 12 designs adapted to this form: passionflower and gulf fritillary butterfly, venus fly traps, outer space, jellyfish, nasturtiums, lotus & frogs, begonias, luna moth & moon phases, orange blossoms, hoya flowers and snowflakes. Coming 6.6.26! 🧡

.
A fresh batch of framed tiles have come out of the kiln. There are 24 in total, with multiples of some designs. I have two more glaze firings to go, but so far everything has been looking good!🤞
.
All of these and more will be going up on Saturday, June 6th. Exact time is still TBD, but you can stay in the loop via my email preview. Details to jump on the mailing list are at the bottom of my website homepage. ☺️ by @renee_lopresti

The first finished pieces emerge from the kiln! Wall hanging wood-framed tiles in the orange blossoms, venus fly traps and nasturtiums designs.
.
I have been working everyday and am finally starting to see the light at the end of the glazing tunnel! Need to see how this week goes before I can confidently pin down a date. Tentatively planning for the last Saturday in May, with the first Saturday in June as a second option.
.
I have more wall tiles…plus mugs, tumblers, teabowls, jars, bowls and planters in the works. Lots of variety of forms this time around. 🤗 by @renee_lopresti

Some new mugs, while I am still deep in hyper-focus glazing mode 👀
.
There are two new things happening here can you spot them?
.
Over 125 pieces are in the works for my first collection release of the year! This is shaping up to be a really BIG one… and hopefully it will have been worth the wait. I am pushing to make it happen by the end of May, but there is a small chance it could be the first week of June.
.
I’ll keep y’all posted on details for date and time as i work through glazing this work and have a better idea of when they will be done by!☺️ by @renee_lopresti

Something new 🍃
.
During the month of March I had the pleasure of spending two weeks on the coast of South Carolina for an artist residency. I spent each day hiking in the woods and studying the local flora and fauna of the area. I wanted to create a design that featured a plant intrinsic to the area, and luckily was able to catch the native spotted trilliums at the end of their spring bloom cycle.
.
The trillium have a beautiful variegated leaf pattern that i wanted to replicate with two colors of dark and light green glaze. This is the first design where I tested working with two glaze colors butting up against one another (with no line work in between).
.
This tea bowl is the first of its kind, and also features a super dark blue background, making it feel like a night time scene. 💙 by @renee_lopresti
