Burning, Biting, Blooming: Rethinking Politics Across the Range of More-than-human Struggles

We are hosting a three-day long symposium in Novemeber where we will discuss and explore various forms of more-than-human politics.

➡ What counts as politics and political practices among other-than-humans and more-than-human relationships?
➡ How do environmental elements, processes and materials struggle to become political, remain political and resist strategies of de/politization?
➡ How to approach and redefine political intentionality beyond the human?

More details and program will be shared here soon! by @resis_terra

We call for contributions to a symposium entitled Burning, Biting, Blooming: Rethinking Politics Across the Range of More-Than-Human Struggles, to be held at Charles University in Prague from 5-6 November 2026 with Cymene Howe as a keynote.

Inviting submissions from anthropology, environmental humanities, and related disciplines, the symposium aims to centre-stage the politics involved in other-than-human and more-than-human relations of resistance, refusal, unruliness, activism, subversion, rebellion, and other forms of struggles beyond the human.

Submission deadline: 15th of May, 2026
How to submit: Send your 300-word proposal with your name, affiliation and a few sentences about you to info@resisterra.org or bob.kurik@fhs.cuni.cz by @resis_terra

Práva přírody jako řešení ekologické krize? Hana Müllerová a Jakub Hanák

Vysvětlíme, co by koncept práv přírody znamenal z hlediska práva, jaké překážky udělení práv brání (specificky zejména v Evropě) a jaká řešení jsou navrhována.

Práce a příroda: Nezbytná jednota / Martin Tremčinský

When escaping deeper into the mountains and exposing himself to vertical walls and sharp ridges, Robert only found the destructive tentacles of developmental megaprojects changing the environment irreversibly. Although more-than-human anthropology gave him an opportunity to intertwine his lifeworld with academia, maybe what he truly seeks is metamorphosing into a mountain goat. 🐐 by @resis_terra

Michal focuses on social history of the 19th and 20th centuries, with special attention to various social movements, however if he let his heart guide him, he would be a community tree organizer. He is also a a community organiser with the Tenants Initiative. by @resis_terra

He serves as assistant professor at University of Notre Dame in the Anthropology department, where he focuses on the examination and sustainable support for building common tools and infrastructures for collaborative socio-environmental studies. by @resis_terra

Petra studies how anthropocentric landscapes are shaped through more-than-human relations and material politics. She draws on decolonial perspectives and new materialism to question extractivist and anthropocentric ways of knowing. She is interested in different temporalities, and more-than-human forms of agency, and the uneven terrains of climate and social justice. by @resis_terra

Mateusz’s research interest lies in the mutually constitutive relations between politics and the material environment, however his recent work has taken a more activist inclination. Work within ResisTerra focuses on activists trying to collaborate with beavers in struggles against the onslaught of the climate catastrophe. by @resis_terra

It might seem that designing chairs has little in common with more-than-human anthropology. Marek’s fieldwork however tells a different story. He has been observing assemblages forming around fences in the landscape, the designing of borders and subsequent interactions 🐺🐑 by @resis_terra
