5 houseplant mistakes that are easier to make than you think 🌿

Houseplant care doesn’t have to be complicated - but a few really common habits can cause problems without you realising.

#RHIZA #Houseplants #PlantCare #HouseplantTips #planttips

1. Watering on a schedule 💧
Your plant doesn’t know it’s Sunday. 😂 How quickly soil dries depends on the plant, pot size, soil, temperature, light and time of year. Check the soil first and water based on what the plant actually needs rather than automatically watering every 7 days.

2. Assuming yellow leaves mean your plant is thirsty 🍂
Yellowing can happen for lots of reasons - including overwatering, underwatering, natural ageing, root problems or changes in light. Look at the whole plant and check the soil before reaching for the watering can.

3. Thinking more sunlight is always better ☀️
“Bright light” doesn’t necessarily mean hours of direct sun. Some tropical houseplants can scorch when suddenly exposed to intense sunlight. Learn what your individual plant prefers and acclimatise it gradually if you’re moving it somewhere brighter.

4. Moving into a huge pot when repotting 🪴
Bigger isn’t always better. A pot with lots of excess soil can stay wet for much longer than the roots need, increasing the risk of problems. When sizing up, a modest increase is usually better than giving a small root system an enormous new home.

5. Only paying attention to the leaves 🌱
Leaves tell you plenty, but don’t forget what’s happening below the soil. Roots can reveal issues with moisture, drainage, overcrowding and overall plant health. Get to know what healthy roots look like too.

Good plant care is less about following rigid rules and more about learning to read your plants. 🌿
