Well, I'm over the moon! 🎬 My screenplay PRETTY UGLY has advanced to the TOP 10 in the Comedy/Rom-Com category of the 2026 @finaldraftscreenwriting Big Break Screenwriting Contest!

With more than 12,000 total entries last year and a record number this year, this is one of the best and most established screenplay competitions. I am so honored to have made it this far with my quirky, Southern fried black comedy about plastic surgery! #screenplays #screenwriting by @robbierobertsonwrites

It has a been a very cool two for Tuesday on the screenplay front! THE WHISTLER HAUNTING has been named a screenplay finalist at the most awesome @scundergroundff in my home state.

And my new short screenplay TO BE A MAN has been selected as part of the @bigsyn_film_festival in London (selected as part of a United Nations Sustainable Development Goals commitment at the World's biggest sustainability film festival). This is my second selection at Big SYN in several years, and I'm so happy to be part of their mission-driven programming in the UK again! #bigsynfilmfest26 #screenplays #screenwriter by @robbierobertsonwrites

This isn’t about asking for “special treatment” for LGBTQ+ organizations. It’s about asking why they didn’t receive the same treatment as everyone else.

After more than 170 arts organizations were approved for funding, the @scartscomm (SC Arts Commission) singled out just two—the Greenville Gay Men’s Chorus and Proud Mary Theatre Company, both LGBTQ+ arts organizations—for additional scrutiny. Both had already been recommended for funding through the Commission’s normal review process. The Gay Men’s Chorus received a 91 out of 100 for artistic merit from independent reviewers.

Yet commissioners questioned the “artistic merit” of these two organizations and required them—and only them—to provide additional information. Then the Commission moved the decision up two weeks, from Oct. 15 to a special Oct. 1 Zoom-only meeting with no in-person viewing.

The result: a 5–3 vote denying funding to both organizations, with no public explanation given for the decision.

Whatever anyone thinks about LGBTQ+ issues, that’s the point worth examining: Were these arts organizations evaluated by the same standards and through the same process as everyone else?

Here are the five commissioners who voted no. Their public service—and the decisions they make on behalf of South Carolina’s arts community—deserve public attention.
