Happy retirement, @lufthansa @lufthansaviews @airbus Airbus A340-600.

I was fortunate enough to photograph these majestic aircraft twice; in Tokyo (Haneda) and Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok airport. How good do those massive Rolls-Royce engines look?

Lufthansa had operated 24 of these A346 jets over a 23-year period, but only a handful remained in its fleet during the final months of service. On the flip side, the smaller Airbus A340-300 will continue to fly for a bit longer for the German airline.

With not many of these long “Flying Pencil” operators left in the world - a mate of mine told me there are only two other active operators: Mahan Air and USC, soon enough, we can only admire them through our archives.

The end of an era of four-engined aircraft.

The one and only @lufthansa A340-642 [D-AIHD] I ever captured. Back on July 25th, 2015 in Hongkong.
Now, this aircraft has been retired from service.

🚨 🚨 MD-11F of @westernglobalairlines_official photographed leaving its mark with a smokey touchdown in Australian soil. 💨😮‍💨

N781SN had recently visited Australia to supply fire-related solutions from the US.

With the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 becoming a rare movement these days, seeing one in 2026 was worth the drive! Great to it back in the skies.
