This is Wren — we’ve worked so hard for my beautiful girl.
Getting it right for her so she loves her life, with her sensitive nervous system… and she gave me the ride of my life this morning 🤍
Years of work and showing up for her, no matter what. Was a surreal morning …. Lots of whooping when we hung up from my coach after our session . 🥳

QUIZ TIME! Which is the better example of TRAVERS? NUMBER 1 OR NUMBER 2?

Travers is a really valuable exercise for developing your horse’s suppleness and balance.

We use it in competition, of course, but I also use it frequently at home as part of our training to improve the horse’s ability to bend while maintaining balance and rhythm.

It’s a fantastic building block for developing the horse’s overall education and understanding of lateral work.

And as you already know, half-pass is essentially travers ridden on a diagonal.

Back to the quiz! 1 or 2?

What if we’re so busy working towards the life we want that we forget to enjoy the life we already have?

We hear people talk about enjoying the journey all the time. But I wonder how often we actually stop and think about what that means.

I think it’s much simpler than we make it.

It’s the little things that happen every day that we can so easily overlook because we’re too busy thinking about what’s next.

It’s a beautiful cup of coffee before the day gets going. A wonderful moment with your horse. A little breakthrough you’ve been working towards. A laugh with someone you love.

Life isn’t always wonderful. We’ve all had those moments when we’ve stopped and wondered if we’re actually getting anywhere. When everything feels like an uphill climb and we’re working incredibly hard without seeing much in return.

Some days, simply showing up and getting through it is enough. And those days matter just as much as the days when we’re celebrating our wins.

Success takes time. You plant the seeds, you do the work, you nurture them and then comes the hardest part: waiting for them to grow.

Sometimes you can’t see the growth. Sometimes you question whether anything is happening at all. But that doesn’t mean the seeds aren’t taking root.

Have faith that you’re heading in the right direction. Believe that things will work out and that the seeds you’ve planted will grow.

Keep going. Keep learning. Keep growing, even when you can’t see the growth.

And remember, your journey is already happening.

Make sure you’re actually awake enough to enjoy it.

Sometimes the beautiful parts of our lives happen in the quiet moments sandwiched between all the big things.

In the mornings, before the business of running a busy stable and a growing company takes over, I just need a little time with my horse. Time to think about what I’d like to do a little differently tomorrow, thank him for being such a good boy and enjoy the simplicity of being with my favourite horse.

It’s hard to create space for yourself when life is this busy. But Greg always seems to know when I need it.

I didn’t realise my friend was filming this little moment, but I thought it was just magic. Greg quietly delivering a coffee and a kiss, making space for me to hang out with my boy, enjoy the sunshine and have a little moment to myself.

We talk a lot about nurturing relationships that feed and restore us. I know I try to give that to everybody, but I’m learning to accept a little nurturing for myself, too.

Perhaps one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself is to take a minute out from being strong and capable.

And just be.

Transformation 🖤Love my job! Comment YES for a direct link to shop the Equine Evolution Stabilising Martingale. The Greg Andrews Stabilising Martingale helps the rider maintain a more consistent leg-to-hand connection, providing stability and support while the young horse develops the strength and balance to work correctly over its topline and seek an even contact with the bridle.

A little grass, two very scary judges and another fun day with the boys! 😂

When we reported to the judge at A, I discovered a piece of grass hanging out the side of Blue’s mouth… casual toss over the shoulder 😂

The judge at E then moved her hand ever so slightly and literally scared the crap out of him! 😂
Let’s just say I was pretty happy when that final salute came 👀🤣
I think we might need a few more practice days! 😉

All in all, a fabulous day at our new local competition grounds. I absolutely love the venue.

Four FEI starts and four wins this year for Bluey! But win, lose or draw, he’s my all-time favourite horse to ride. ❤️

Happy Saturday , peeps!

Which hand position is more correct? Video 1 or Video 2?

Video 1 shows a closed hand, a slightly curled wrist and a bent elbow, forming a loose right angle.

Video 2 shows an open hand, open fingers and a straight arm stretching forward towards the horse’s mouth.

Which hand position do you think is better and could ultimately create a better connection?

Tell us in the comments: 1 or 2?

What does connection actually mean?

Connection is a link or relationship between two things. In riding, it is a continuous, responsive link between horse and rider — a two-way conversation in which the rider communicates through the reins, seat and legs.

The very definition of the word connection tells us something important. If the rein is looping, the connection can be lost.

I sometimes like to think of it this way: imagine standing on one leg and beginning to lose your balance. Someone gently holding the back of your shirt could help you regain your balance.

That is a little like the supportive fluidity we want in our connection with the horse.

Think of it like a piece of elastic. Elastic needs tension between both ends to do its job. Without that tension, it simply hangs loose.

A light connection is still a connection. A loose rein with no contact is not a light connection — it is a loss of connection.

Connection is about communication.

First ever sit 🥹 What a magic moment to cherish forever. 🖤 This is Andie’s Glamadore.

We start our babies quietly, at walk, sometimes a gentle little jog and, if they’re balanced enough, perhaps a canter here and there.

We take our time over two or three years. A few days here, a week there, a night in the stable learning the routine, then months back out in the paddock with friends, remembering how to just be a horse.

I strongly disagree with one big, intensive start at four or five. These are big animals, and their bodies and soft tissues need time to develop the strength to carry a rider. We don’t believe in rushing the process.

We focus on balance, whole-body strength and a reliable whoa. Building trust in us, and just as importantly, helping our horses trust themselves and understand how to use their bodies.

Having produced many horses, including winning Grand Prix horses who have worked happily into their late twenties, I believe we need to be careful about applying racehorse industry data directly to our young dressage horses. The workloads and physical demands are very different.

Little and often is the best way forward with our giants. 🖤

Want to see how Greg introduces young horses to training right from the very beginning? Comment YES and we’ll send you the link to our website.

We also offer online groundwork lessons to help you build better communication and confidence with your horse.

Every aid is part of a conversation with your horse.

Your leg, your rein, your seat and your voice are all ways of asking questions and listening to the answers.

When you ask your horse to move away from your leg or move into a contact, give them the opportunity to answer. The moment they begin moving in the right direction, soften your aid.

This is how horses learn to look for the right answer rather than simply react to pressure.

Zhougie is straight out of starting and still very young and green, but already we’re beginning to apply these principles.

Clarity matters. Correct aids matter. But so does knowing when to take the aid away.

If the pressure never changes, how does the horse know when they’ve got it right?

The release is part of the conversation. It tells the horse, “Yes, that’s what I was asking.”

And this is where we begin to develop a horse that wants to understand, that becomes more confident in their learning and finds it easier to respond to our requests.

The goal is not simply to get a response. It’s to create the conditions for the horse to understand.

Learn with us.

If you’d like to learn how we start work with our young horses from the beginning, comment YES and we’ll send you a direct link to our website.
