affirmations are fun & cool, they help us heal & they help us grow 🌸 by @rocio_alvaarez
I think I live in a constant state of nostalgia. I give meaning to little things. Places, songs, objects, coincidences, moments that probably mean nothing and somehow mean everything to me. I have an album on my phone called “sunsets d mi vida.” Every sunset I love goes in there. Somewhere along the way, I gave them a meaning too: the people we’ve lost coloring the sky for a few minutes, just to say, we’re still here. Maybe that’s just what I do. I romanticize things because I like believing there’s something bigger behind them. Some higher power, some connection, some reason why certain things find us when they do. Yesterday’s sunset made me think about my grandma and two rosaries that took 8 years to find their way back to me. In 2018, while living in Paris, I bought them at Sacré-Cœur for my grandma, the most important person in my life. When I left Paris, I accidentally left them behind. My friend found them and kept them, thinking she’d eventually give them back to me. Except “eventually” never came. I moved to the US, she moved to Germany, and we never saw each other again. In 2022, my grandma died. Earlier this year, my friend texted me: “Hey, I still have your rosaries.” She had kept them safe for 8 years. 8 YEARS! Another friend happened to be visiting Berlin, so I asked if she could meet her and bring them back to me. She did. And 8 years later, the rosaries I bought for my grandma in Paris made their way back to me in Miami. I’ll never get to give them to her. But maybe they came back to me when I needed them instead. I’ve never been particularly religious, but something about religion, faith, or my idea of a higher power has been changing for me this year. I don’t fully know what that change is yet. Maybe none of these things are connected. Maybe I just like connecting them. But I find comfort in giving meaning to the little things. A rosary kept safe for 8 years. An old photograph. A coincidence. A sky that turns orange for five minutes before disappearing. Little reminders that the people we love have a funny way of finding us again. So yesterday’s sunset is going into “sunsets d mi vida.” And this one, I think, is hers<33 by @rocio_alvaarez

<333 by @rocio_alvaarez
