POSTS STORIES REELS

State Trooper. Korean War-era Army intelligence. Longtime Gun Report writer. And quietly, the man behind the finest collection of Civil War carbines we've ever seen.

Andrew Lustyik spent a lifetime tracking down rare experimental breechloaders, some known to collectors only from the pages of Gun Report. Several are the only examples of their kind we've ever handled. by @rockislandauction

When we look at a vintage gun, such as this Winchester, we often refer to its story in the past tense- a chronicle, if you will. However, for this piece, there are pages of its history yet to be written. Next week, I embark on my first hunt, courtesy of @stateline_shootist, with this 1929 ‘06 Winchester Model 1895 in the saddle.

Throughout my short journey with firearms, I have remained predominantly a handgunner- and a mediocre one at that. My shooting interests and collecting focus has remained rather hilariously skewed towards handguns, up until recently.

Growing up in a non-gun-centered house, the leaves turning every year wasn’t an indication that the hunt would soon be at hand, but rather that football season was in full swing. As a self-proclaimed gun guy, in adulthood I resented that missed opportunity, but with so few shooting influences in my life growing up, I can’t really be too harsh.

As I have dove head-first into the history of guns and our great country, I found myself coming back to one man: Theodore Roosevelt. If ever a more captivating gun guy has ever lived, I certainly couldn’t name them. The stories of his various hunts, both foreign and domestic, encouraged me to follow (however impossible) in his footsteps.

Luckily, I have been blessed to have some incredible friends, so upon expressing my interest to hunt, Chauncey said, “let’s do it”.

Of course, you couldn’t have expected me to choose a carbon-fiber stocked, modern rifle for such an occasion. I have long searched for a Model 1895, the last Browning lever-action design, but had never found the right one. As if Artemis herself heard my languish, shortly after finalizing the trip’s details with the Cowboy, a 1895 made itself known to me.

This example, made in 1929, chambers the classic American .30-06 Springfield cartridge. Of the 425,000 M1895s produced, only 25,000 are known to be in either .30-06 or the earlier .30-03. It is a fabulously made rifle, one that really allows you to hate the genius of John Moses Browning when disassembling and reassembling it.

It will be a great honor to use this for my first hunt.

It’s still surreal that the last visit to @rockislandauction ended in a 1938 Registered Magnum, with its original box and in stunning condition.

I’ll be back on the ground with Eli and Jake @1911syndicate / @1776_duck for the December show once more, and I’m looking forward to seeing where the chips fall. The catalog is live now - hope to see you on the ground come December! by @rockislandauction

Winston Churchill. Ken Hunt. Firmo Fracassi.

Since @1776_duck shot his HK P7 M13 in a match last weekend here’s a gratuitous nickel M13 photo. As of November 1, Die Hard viewings have been approved through the remainder of the year. You are encouraged to rally up any Die Hard guns to have on your coffee table for the viewing. We will be filming the actual 92 from Die Hard at @rockislandauction in December. Christmas In Hollis by Run DMC will be played.

We’ll be broadcasting live all day Saturday from Rock Island for their on time auction. Feed hosted on their site. Welcome to the party……pal by @rockislandauction

RPG-7: Cold War Classic

The RPG-7 is arguably the most recognizable anti-armor launcher ever fielded. That reputation came from decades of service and continuous adaptation. by @rockislandauction

World's Fair Remington 1875

Only a small number of Remington Model 1875 revolvers received factory engraving. This high-condition, two-tone example was almost certainly created as an exhibition piece and may have appeared at the Paris Exposition or Chicago World's Fair. by @rockislandauction

Yes, Die Hard is a Christmas movie. And this is John McClane’s Beretta 92F.

This screen-used Beretta was used by Bruce Willis as John McClane in Die Hard. One of two Beretta 92F pistols documented to the production, it’s a genuine piece of movie history tied to one of action cinema’s best-known characters.

And yes, we know what you’re thinking: Yippee-ki-yay. by @rockislandauction

Few collectors have lived a life quite like Robert M. Lee.

Explorer, conservationist, author, philanthropist, and collector, Lee assembled an extraordinary collection of fine and historic arms that remains a testament to a life exceptionally well lived.
