Rocky Mountain Astronomy Tours is now... After an incredible journey as Rocky Mountain Astronomy Tours, I am excited to announce our new name: โœจ Rocky Mountain Stargazing โœจ The new name better reflects what we do and is easier to remember, but nothing else is changing. You'll still find the same tours, telescopes, and unforgettable nights under Utah's dark skies. As we make this transition, you may notice that some website links, social media usernames, emails, or other references still say Rocky Mountain Astronomy Tours. Updating everything across the internet takes a little time, so thank you for your patience while everything gets switched over. Thank you all for your incredible support - I can't wait to continue sharing the wonders of the night sky with you under our new name! ๐ŸŒŒ โœจ #utahevents #utahbusiness #stargazingtour #stargazing #utahskies by @rockymountainstargazing
Who's missing warm summer nights under the stars? โœจ With the weather finally changing and getting colder each night it makes me miss the warm summer nights. โ„๏ธBut did you know that the cold nights are usually better for looking through telescopes? Cold nights can create a really still atmosphere which is amazing for planet gazing. ๐Ÿช The best part about this? Saturn is going to be up high in the sky during the time of year when it will likely be the sharpest views! Want to see Saturn through our biggest telescope? Book a stargazing experience within these next couple months! #saturn #stargazing #utahevents #utahfun #visitutah by @rockymountainstargazing

๐Ÿ”ญ Capturing a star that died ~10,000 years ago ๐Ÿชฆ This weekend I finally had some time to setup a telescope for imaging! Using my @spectrum_optics SPi53 I was able to capture the Dumbbell Nebula (M57). The Dumbbell Nebula is the result of what happens to a really old star that is too small to go supernova. This star did not explode, but rather it swelled up really big and practically fell apart into space. The outer layers of its atmosphere then expand outward into space growing in size but decreasing in brightness. The story of this star is not over yet as the left over core, a white dwarf, will continue to glow for billions of years because of its immense temperature. #astrophotography #stargazing #smarttelescope #visitutah #telescope by @rockymountainstargazing
๐ŸŒŒ Free Star Party Alert! ๐Ÿ”ญ Find us at the September Antelope Island Star party hosted by the Ogden Astronomical Society and @antelopeislandstatepark. ๐Ÿ”ญ How easy is it set up the @spectrum_optics SP127 Telescope? #SpectrumOpticsAmbassador One of the best things about the Spectrum Optics SP127 is how easy it is to set up compared to almost any other telescope on the market. Since Spectrum Optics sent us the SP127 we have been able to play with it and figure out what it can do! If you don't know anything about this telescope, it's a sort of hybrid between a smart telescope and a visual telescope. This telescope takes live-stacking pictures through the 53mm imaging scope while you can look through the 127 Maksutov at the same time. We bring this telescope to most of our large public star parties. Stop by if you want to see it in action! #telescope #smarttelescope #utahevents #stargazing by @rockymountainstargazing
๐Ÿช Saturn looked so good this night ๐Ÿ˜ญ A couple nights ago I had the pleasure to lead 2 separate groups on private stargazing tours. It was a very late night and I had an early flight the following morning. I decided I would take one last look at Saturn... I'm so glad I did. As I put my eye to the eyepiece I was filled with amazement as Saturn was crystal clear. It's not very often that Saturn looks this good, so I spend the next hour just staring at Saturn and trying to capture a half decent phone video through the eyepiece to share with you all. โ˜๏ธ Planetary viewing is very dependent on weather conditions. For a clear view you need a very calm night, no wind, no turbulent jet stream above, and very little movement of hot air rising from off the ground. Tonight was that night. These conditions gave me the best view I have had of Saturn in over 2 years. Phone videos through the eyepiece do not do any justice to what I saw that night. This is truly only an experience you can experience with your own eyes. If you'd like to see Saturn for yourself through our biggest telescope, book a private stargazing experience with us or come to one of the many free public events we host/help with. #stargazing #visitutah #utahevents #telescope #astronomy by @rockymountainstargazing
