NOTE TO HOMEOWNERS: Call your local code department and confirm. My posts apply to NC and several other states. Different states can have different rules. A shower can look perfect… and still fail. 🚿⚠️ Tile is decorative. 🧱✨ The system behind it protects your house. 🏠💧 Most shower failures don’t show up during install. They show up months — sometimes years — later. ⏳ Soft drywall. 😬 Swollen baseboards. Mold behind the walls. 🦠 And by then? It’s expensive. 💸 A proper shower requires: ✔ A real waterproof system 💦 ✔ A flood test (yes, every time) 🪣 ✔ A plumbing permit 📋 ✔ A licensed plumber pulling that permit 👨‍🔧 Not a tile installer. ❌ Not a handyman. ❌ Not even a general contractor. ❌ Accountability matters. 🧾⚖️ The difference between a shower that looks good 👀 and one that lasts 🛠️ is what you don’t see. Ask better questions. 🤔 Protect your home. 🏡🛡️ If you want real-world construction truth — not sales talk — follow me. 👷‍♂️🔥 by @rogerscheck
Most homeowners don’t intend to hire the wrong contractor 🤝🏠 They make reasonable assumptions… and that’s where things go sideways ⚠️😬 I’ve spent years fixing work that looked great in photos 📸✨ but completely failed behind the walls 🚿🧱💦 Bad waterproofing ❌ Skipped permits 🚫📄 Unlicensed trades 🔌🚫 Rushed decisions ⏱️😤 And problems homeowners didn’t even realize they were signing up for 😮‍💨 This carousel breaks down 17 of the most common mistakes I see homeowners make when hiring people to work in their home 👀📝 Not because they’re careless 🙅‍♂️ But because no one ever explained the risks to them 📚💡 Here’s the reality 👇👇👇 💸 Cheap prices usually mean shortcuts 📸 Photos don’t show what actually matters 🧱 “We’ve always done it this way” isn’t a plan ⏱️ Rushing the hiring process almost always leads to regret A good contractor doesn’t just sell you a finished product 🏁 They protect your home 🏡 Your money 💰 And your peace of mind 😌 Before the first tool ever comes out 🔨✅ If you’re planning a remodel 🛁🍽️ an addition 🏗️ or even a repair 🧰 slow down ⏸️ read through these slides 📖 and save this post 📌📌 It might save you tens of thousands later 💵💵💵 And if you want homeowner education that goes beyond the minimum 📐⬆️ 👉 follow @rogerscheck 👈 I break this stuff down so you don’t have to learn it the hard way 💪🏽😤🏡🔥 by @rogerscheck
If you’re thinking about renovating… read this first. 🛠️🏡 Most homeowners don’t ask nearly enough questions before hiring a contractor — and that’s where things start to go wrong. Missed deadlines. Surprise costs. Work that doesn’t meet your expectations. But it doesn’t have to be that way. I put together 17 essential questions every homeowner should ask before signing a contract. These questions will help you: ✅ Spot red flags early ✅ Understand how your project will actually be managed ✅ Hire someone who’s the right fit for your home Because trust isn’t built during the job — it’s built before it even starts. 🚿 Cheap plumbing fixtures can end up costing you a lot more! 💰 Saving a few bucks buying bathroom fixtures online might sound like a good idea, but what happens when something goes wrong? 🚨 BUSINESS DOESN’T JUST COME TO YOU! 💼🔥 You have to get out there and earn it! 💪 📞 Make the phone calls. 🤝 Follow up with past clients. 🏡 Build relationships with other agents. 💡 Surround yourself with people who are more successful than you. 📚 Never stop learning! And here’s something a lot of real estate agents get wrong. 👇 📊 STOP focusing so much on national real estate headlines and start paying attention to YOUR local market! What’s happening nationally isn’t necessarily what’s happening in your backyard. And remember, relationships go both ways. You can’t just take. You have to give something back! 🤝 🎙️ On this episode of Better Than Minimum, we’re talking about what it actually takes to build a successful real estate business with @victoriameltonncrealestate 👇 Real estate agents, what’s the ONE thing that’s helped you grow your business the most? 🎥 Watch the FULL interview on YouTube! by @rogerscheck
🤔 STOP RIDING THE FENCE! One thing that drives me crazy is when professionals are afraid to give their clients an honest opinion. 🏡 “You could do this, or you could do that. It’s really up to you.” Of course the final decision is up to the client! But they hired you for your EXPERIENCE and EXPERTISE. 💯 Sometimes that means telling people what they NEED to hear, not what they WANT to hear. 👏 Good advice isn’t always the advice someone wants. And if we don’t see eye to eye, I’d rather figure that out early than waste everyone’s time. 🎙️ Victoria Melton @victoriameltonncrealestate and I talk about this and a whole lot more on Better Than Minimum! ▶️ Watch the FULL interview on our YouTube channel! 👉 Follow @betterthanminimum for more conversations about doing things BETTER than minimum. 📲 SHARE this with someone who needs to hear it! 👇 Would you rather have someone tell you what you want to hear or what you NEED to hear? by @rogerscheck

🚨 What’s the laziest thing a tile installer can do? Leave exposed tile cuts without polishing the edges. It takes a little extra time, but it makes a HUGE difference in the finished product. The details matter. 🎙️ Catch my full interview with Brandon George @a_sharper_finish_llc on the Better Than Minimum Podcast on YouTube! 👊 Follow @betterthanminimum for more, and share this with someone who needs to hear it! by @rogerscheck
