I woke up in a flare, on Halloween of all days. I had all these grand ideas for how the day would go. They didn’t go as expected.

We got our family photo, even through the chaos.
There were exactly 3 toddler-sized tantrums before trick-or-treating.
I pushed myself past my limit walking the neighborhood.
We returned home earlier than expected.
The kids sifted through their haul, which was less than last year’s.

I felt disappointed, wishing I could’ve done more this year. I asked them if they had fun and was met with a resounding YES.

Despite not meeting my own expectations, the kids had a blast! They didn’t care about the chaos or their mom slowly trailing behind them. They didn’t need a bigger candy haul…

They just needed us to have fun with them 🥹

After Laith was stillborn, I was afraid to share what happened. I was fearful of upsetting people, making things awkward, and opening myself up for criticism.

Not talking about Laith felt like I was saying he never existed. That feeling outweighed my fear. Keeping him to myself was a disservice to him, to me, and our family. I want him to be remembered.

I’m sharing him today, on Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day as a reminder that he existed. If you understand this type of grief, you are not alone.

I can’t mother Laith the way I do my living children. I’ll carry him with me for the rest of my life and I choose to share him every chance I get. It may not be much, but it’s all I have.

🐾 Happy 6th Birthday, Bonnie! 🎂❤️

Back in 2020, we were searching for a puppy for my oldest daughter. During our search, we visited a family with a litter of 19 Dalmatian puppies. Yes, 19! 😂

I was trying to be the responsible dad, looking for the perfect puppy for my daughter. But secretly, I had fallen in love with one particular little Dalmatian.

My daughter eventually chose a Blue Heeler–Great Pyrenees mix, and I figured that was the end of it.

Or so I thought…

Fast-forward to my birthday. My daughters were giving me their handmade gifts when my youngest handed me a card with a drawing of our family. But there was someone extra in the picture.

A little spotted dog. 🐾

She pointed to it and said, “That’s you and your new dog!”

And just like that, the surprise was out! 😂

Turns out my wife had noticed how much I loved that little Dalmatian and secretly decided to get her for my birthday.

I couldn’t bring Bonnie home until December, but she was worth the wait.

Six years later, she’s still one of the sweetest surprises I’ve ever received.

Happy Birthday, Bonnie! ❤️ Here’s to more adventures, memories, and years together.

Back-to-school for these kids! Suhaila skipped a grade and Khalisah is blossoming into her own 🌹 Can’t wait to see how much they grow this year!

Also, we played the Kpop Demon Hunter soundtrack on the drive to school to get us pumped for the day 😜 Who else is obsessed?

Between diaper changes, school gatherings, and work meetings, it’s challenging to find time for a date. We almost didn’t go out, but we’re glad we did ❤️

God willing, in two months, Raaif will be one 🥹 How bittersweet it feels to know how far we’ve come and how short it seems to have gotten here. He’s learning so many new things! He crawls, stands, and tries to walk. I honestly thought he’d be walking on his own by now, but fortunately, we’ve thwarted that milestone for a little longer. So, instead, he does a one-two-step trust fall. He’ll take a step and dive forward, trusting you’ll catch him. Sometimes if you’re a split second too slow, he face plants into the mat or floor. An abrupt cry follows that and the need for extra snuggles. Don’t worry, folks; no babies have been harmed.

He went from loving avocados to his new favorite, broccoli! He’s eating with his fingers and is mostly self-sufficient. He loves to laugh and smile, but he sure has a stubborn streak. He’s always known what he wants, even during his womb residence. No matter how often we got him to flip head down, he was determined to return to a breech position. I’m not at all surprised. He loves to yell “Yeah!” when he’s excited.

Raaif was 9 months in the womb and is now 9 months out. It feels like he joined our family only yesterday. It dawned on me that we’re only 3 months away from his first birthday 🥹 The time is going by so quickly, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Every second with him is a reminder he’s here with us. He’s learning something new every day! He’s trying to stand up without support, constantly testing his limits. He’s cut his first tooth, so he thinks it’s fun to use it on everything (and everyone). Of all the foods he’s tried, prunes are his favorite. He always makes me laugh when he picks up his puff snacks and wants to put them on his spoon before he eats them. Now that he’s mobile, it’s become that much harder to take these milestone photos. I’ll have to up my game so I can keep up with him!

I’m posting these late, as usual. Life has been chaotic lately. Raaif is blossoming into his own. He’s spunky, smart, and knows just how to melt our hearts. He’s standing now and thinks he’s a pro at it. We’re in trouble as he starts figuring out how to take his first steps. No one in this household is ready for the havoc he will wreak! He’s sleeping in the crib instead of our arms, a bittersweet feeling. He’s babbling more, saying Dada for everything (even when he’s not referring to Woody). He refuses to say Mama and laughs every time I try to get him to say it as if he were taunting me. He is proving to be as stubborn as his Mama.
