Hispanic Heritage Month ends today so here’s a very unedited, impromptu video of me reading ‘An Immigrant Requests a Heart Transplant’ and its Spanish translation ‘Una Inmigrante Pide un Transplante de Corazón.’ ❤️‍🔥 Watch all the way through for Spanish. Asegúrate de ver el video completo para la traducción al español.

This poem (in English) first appeared in my debut collection, Under the Samán Tree with @thewayback2ourselves & @kimberlyphinneywriter. Special thanks to @therabbitroom for requesting I write the Spanish translation and for sharing it on their Substack this week! by @rosagilbertpoetry

Something unexpected happened yesterday: I was notified that UNDER THE SAMÁN TREE: POEMS ON HOME, LONGING, AND BELONGING won a Silver @nautilusbookawards Book Award. 🥈

GRACIAS to everyone who has supported this poetry collection, who has read, and shared. It means the world, and makes these wins feel even more special because I have friends & readers to share it with✨

GRACIAS to my publisher @kimberlyphinneywriter with The Way Back Books (@thewayback2ourselves). This collection wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for her encouragement and belief in my work.

GRACIAS to the reviewing team over at @nautilusbookawards for honoring my collection in this way, for believing its words are what the world needs right now.

GRACIAS a DIOS who has given me passion & love for this beautiful craft. This win is ultimately his.

YOUNG STORYTELLER’S FELLOWSHIP❤️‍🔥🖋️📓

If you haven’t already noticed, I cannot keep up with my posting. So, yea, this is me finally posting pics from the incredible, beautiful, UNFORGETTABLE @inkwellstory fellowship that ended two months ago (how?!😭)

Can’t really put into words what this group of fellow co-creators means to me—how they continue to push me in my craft and walk with God—and the impact that our time together will have for years to come!! (also follow all of them if you don’t because they’re creating amazing things).

@conorsweetman & @estelletipp : Thank you for gifting us with your time, wisdom, and energy. This fellowship was everything it was because of all the care + intention poured into it by you guys.

Through this fellowship I got the opportunity to:
- Meet a group of creators with whom I was able to have all those deep, artistic, thoughtful conversations I’ve always dreamt of having with friends (and still continue to aka our group chat!)
- Visit amazing places in D.C. & Nashville (including @therabbitroom North Wind Manor)
- Hear from incredible + relevant speakers on faith, art, and our cultural moment
- Share my work in person!! Live!!
- Put together a creative project, present it, and receive feedback from successful individuals in the writing/editorial world
- Build friendships that will last a lifetime (and into eternity)

Until we meet again, because it’s not if it’s when (gotta make all those prophetic dreams come true) ✨ by @rosagilbertpoetry
