I've finally returned to oil paint! Thank God, I'm loving it. It's been about 3 years since I worked in oil paint and I've missed it so much. Right now I am practicing a value scale so I can learn how to control light and dark in my paintings but in a few weeks I will be starting to use colours which I am looking forward to.

There is something about the texture of oil paint that is just so satisfying and when I paint it just feels so good! by @rosecoroy

I haven't bought art supplies for AGES so it was definitely overdue! I ordered from Bromley's Art Supplies this time. Just getting stocked up to begin oil painting, and continue with my charcoal and pencil drawing.

There is something so special about ordering new art supplies and it never gets old! Is it just me?? I feel like people in other professions probably feel the same getting new 'tools of the trade', like I imagine woodworkers feeling the same about their tools etc. by @rosecoroy

I never thought that 3 years into my art study I would be going back to the sphere, but since I started moving into using charcoal, it has been a necessary step to understand this new and challenging media.

Life isn't always a linear journey, whatever that means. Sometimes shortcuts look like the long way around...

I'm taking classes at London School of Visual Arts and my teacher Charlie said that whenever you start a new medium you should do simple forms and gradients because it lets you get to know your materials... by @rosecoroy

A little reminder that life doesn't always have to be a linear progression - if you want to try something new then it's your life! Give yourself the gift of education :)
I'm taking a 12-week drawing and painting course with Charlie Pickard at his studio and I am really enjoying it a lot so far and learning so much after doing online art study (realistic art fundamentals) for a few years at Life Drawing Academy. All the things I have learnt online, like anatomy, as really coming in handy for the current course I'm taking!

I turned 20 this summer and to celebrate I am posting 20 Life Lessons I have learnt along the way. Part 1/2. As a side note, I just moved to London! I am so excited because I have a new job and get to continue studying art as well as going to art galleries and sketching.

I'm moving out of home soon for the first time, and I won't be living with my brother anymore. I love him so much and wanted to draw his portrait before I go... I had a lot of fun on this one, I think it is my best portrait so far. My model had fun too (he was watching Ice Age as I drew him haha, you have to keep your models entertained 🤣)
Anyway, all my studies of the muscles of the face and structure of the skull really came in handy here, but I have to say that it is really nice to finally draw an actual FACE!

I'm back! At the moment life is super busy and I'm continuing my anatomy sketches of the shoulders whilst also making plans for the coming academic year. Exciting things ahead, finger crossed. I also just wanted to say that I am so grateful to each and every one of you who continue to support my art and believe in me. You should know that I am in this for the long haul, so you're betting on one determined horse 🐎 😄

I loved creating these sketches - from a combination of life, imagination and memory. I am studying how all the muscles overlap and where they connect - really makes me appreciate how intelligently our human bodies are designed! by @rosecoroy

I'm so happy to share an updated studio tour (last one was 2 years ago!!). Even though this is my bedroom I make it feel like a studio, I have my drawings up on all the walls and my brushes and art books for inspiration 📚 Surrounding myself with beauty 🌸

Self-portrait at 19 • There's something strange about self-portraits because you look at yourself in the mirror for such a long time that you start a deep conversation that you had never imagined you would have. It's kind of hard to explain but you get into this zone where it's like you're looking into your own mind....ps this is actually my first longer self-portrait I have done. Very happy to be focusing on portraits now! by @rosecoroy

So peaceful in the studio today - nothing to do but to draw...

Day by day it is so rewarding to see progress happen... slowly but surely - as days and weeks turn into years, the consistent practice of art grows 🌱 🕊

Before I draw someone, I have a behind-the-scenes ritual to preparing my tools - I sharpen all the blunt pencils I've saved for weeks, put on some calming classical music, and just get into the flow 🕊🌊

The pencils are sharpened with a craft knife totally by hand (no pencil sharpener used) because I am able to custom cut them to have a beautifully tapered point which allows a greater range of lines in my drawings. After cutting away the wood to reveal the pencil I use sandpaper to make the pencil even sharper, allowing me to draw tiny details... 🌿

So honoured to be learning the human body's anatomy - it really is such a beautiful and intelligent design... and so many different disciplines need to learn it. The body brings us together - doctors, athletes, artists, acupuncturists, chiropractors... if you think any more let me know :)

It's been a journey to get to this point in my course, I had to fully understand perspective and shading before progressing to the body due to how difficult it is. But super happy to be here now.... by @rosecoroy
