Wasatch 100 recap.

Everybody asks, “Why would you run 100 miles?”

Before Wasatch, my answer was pretty simple:

Because I can.
Because I’m alive.
And I don’t want to waste that.

But I think I understand my why a little differently now.

I wanted to know what would happen if I went after something so big that I wasn’t entirely sure I could do it. I wanted to find the version of myself that existed somewhere past comfortable, past tired, past everything I thought I had left.

And holy shit, I found her.

Those 100 miles stripped me down in a way I don’t think I’ll ever fully be able to explain. There were moments of pure joy and moments where I had to ask more of my body and mind than I ever have before. I carried my dad with me through every mile, and somewhere out there I kept thinking about how lucky I am to have a body that can hurt this badly, legs that can keep moving, people I love waiting for me, and a life that I still get to live.

That’s why I chose “The Feeling You Get” for this post. Because there is a feeling at the end of going after something that once felt impossible. When you’ve given absolutely everything you have and somehow made it to the other side.

I don’t know if I can put that feeling into words yet.

But I know I want to spend my life chasing things big enough to make me feel it again.

Because I can. Because I’m alive. And I don’t want to waste that. 🖤

A huge thank you to my crew and Pacers, to all the people who love me who called and text and stayed up watching for updates on where I was at. I feel so loved and supported. @runwild_befree_annie @coriben @burkell @debbiefarka @gramaeva @mickrunnin @thejakekilgore @jja_andreasen @zjc429 @angiecdavenport @iheartmacros @sydmarriott @stefanie.stephenson @coach_kynz @torie.harris @berg8403 @lovesweetlove04 @markjosephrobbins @emsky14 by @runjennboo

Jenn’s WASATCH 100
•just a little glimpse in the day of being a crew/pacer for someone I love
•what a treasure to get to experience and get to be part of this with her
•Jenn is naturally sexy, but she’s also bad ass, funny, grit like no other, compassionate, down for anything, cheerleader to everyone around her and she spreads giant rays of sunshine wherever she goes 🌞🥰
•so much love and respect for my girl🤟🏼💜

•also big thanks to my sweetheart @utahricky making sure to capture precious moments, support me and my friends, you are the visionary 😍 by @runjennboo

No aesthetic. No content strategy. Just vibes and a Valencia filter. #imissher #jendosomethingcool #nostalgia by @runjennboo

I think the best way for me to honor my father is to take care of his daughter.

Grief changes you. It’s uncomfortable, messy, and somehow becomes a part of who you are.

My dad loved hearing my running stories. Every race, every mountain, every wild adventure. So I’ll keep running, keep chasing sunrises. 29 days out from Wasatch 😳🤞❤️

My best girl got married last week! And I had the honored to give a toast and when I stood up to do that, the words left me and I didn’t read what I wrote so I’ll leave it right here.

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Jen, one of the lucky people who gets to call Emily my friend.

Emily came into my life at just the right time, and I don’t think that’s been by accident.

Anyone who knows her knows she loves deeply, laughs loudly, and somehow makes every adventure more fun. She’s the kind of person who will hype you up, make you feel beautiful, and convince you that whatever questionable idea you’re considering is absolutely the right one. She’s sunshine and chaos in the very best way.

I’ve had the privilege of seeing Emily in so many seasons of life the hard ones, the joyful ones, and all the messy, magical moments in between. And I can honestly say I’ve never seen her as happy as she is today.

Jason, thank you for keeping up with our girl. That’s no small task she’s equal parts magic, adventure, and just enough chaos to keep life interesting. And I hope you’ve learned by now that when Emily says she has a quick story, what she actually means is she has seven stories and they’re all important. And she’ll be laughing her way through trying to tell you.

Thank you for loving all the things that make Emily, Emily. You never ask her to be less you just seem to love her more for it.

The thing about Emily is she’s always believed in magic a little bit in timing, in adventure, and in the kind of love she always knew was out there. And watching the two of you together, it feels like your story was written in the stars long before either of you knew it. Well actually, both knew it.

So here’s to a lifetime of laughter, beautiful adventures, and choosing each other again and again.

To Emily and Jason. Cheers.🥂 love you 😘 by @runjennboo

Dear Speedgoat,

You absolutely humbled me.

Some races end with an identity crisis halfway up the mountain. 😂 I questioned everything. My training. My nutrition. Whether I had any business showing up to Wasatch.

It’s wild how one hard day can make you forget all the good ones.

I got behind on calories, got absolutely wrecked by the heat, survived on watermelon, potato chips, and vomit, and at Mineral Basin I told them I was done.

Turns out… I wasn’t.

After a few days (and a little less self pity 🤣), I realized one bad race doesn’t erase months of work. Right? 😬

If anything, it reminded me that grit isn’t pretty. Sometimes it looks like tears, dirt, and throwing up on the side of a mountain. I did all three multiple times.

Wasatch still scares me. Honestly, I hope it always does. I respect that race way too much not to.

So I’ll keep stacking days.

See you soon, Wasatch. ✌️❤️

And to Cori 🏃🏼‍♀️ You are the ultimate trail wife. I’m so freaking proud of you. Nine Speedgoat finishes is absolutely insane, and you crushed every mile. Thanks for suffering right alongside me. There isn’t anyone else I’d rather suffer with. Love you forever. 🤍 @coriben

Running with the Babes and the Bulls. We had the mountain to ourselves until we hit Albion, where the wildflowers were showing off along with the brides to be and happy couples taking photos, all of it was so perfect. Easily one of the most beautiful hike/runs I’ve ever been on.
Love my lil mountain goats @runjennboo @coriben

72 days until I toe the line at Wasatch 100.

I don’t know if I’ll ever feel ready, but I’ll keep stacking days, trusting the process, and dancing on top of mountain peaks until it’s time.

Last day of June. Full moon hangover. Still choosing magic anyway. ✨🌕 by @runjennboo

If last year’s June could see this year’s June… she’d probably cry, laugh, and ask for all the details.
Mountains. Sunsets. Magic. Good people. Good clothes. A heart that’s a little lighter.
June so far. ✨ by @runjennboo
