First woman to complete the Rocky Mountain Slam since 2016. Ninth female ever.

With 8 race options available to jump in and become a slammer, there’s no need to wait on lotteries anymore to undergo this endeavor. Of course this is a hard series to complete, but I am 100% sure there are more women out there capable of this adventure and I hope to inspire and encourage others to go for it. 😜👍🏼

It makes me so happy to announce that registration for the 2027 Running Up For Air Malans Peak race opens TOMORROW!

February 19th & 20th, we’re heading back up and down and up and down the mountain for another full day of climbing, community, and doing something good for the air we all share.

Whether you’re coming to run your first lap, challenge yourself for 3, 6, 12, or 24 hours, join a team, volunteer, or simply be part of the magic, there’s a place for you here.

Every lap matters. Every person makes a difference. AND every dollar we raise goes directly to supporting clean air initiatives locally through our charity, Weber State Sustainability. @wsu_sust

Go to: runsignup.com and search: Malans peak. Here you can register to race or sign up to volunteer.

My incredible team of @monicalynnlee @mus.keep.running @brandon_p_musgrove @andrea_nye & @sianiw_ will be back for our EIGHTH YEAR! We sure hope that you’ll be there too! 👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼

This is the 9th year that @leelabrum has put this loop together in the mountains above Cache Valley. I still can’t remember what all the peaks are called, but most of them end with the word “baldy”. We went up and over a ton of them (8100’ worth) this morning with a couple already getting some decent snow. It was a joy to try and keep up with these ladies and celebrate what could be the ending to a beautiful mountain peak season. 😍

I love being around people who aren’t afraid to dream big and talk about it freely. The ones who quietly redefine what’s possible just by going after the things that matter to them. It’s one of the main reasons I love coaching.

There’s something about that kind of energy that makes you want to be a little braver with your own dreams.

Sometimes the first brave thing someone does is simply tell another person what they dream of doing. Before the training plans, the long runs, and the finish lines, there’s often a conversation where someone says, “I think I want to try this.”

And I get to be the person who takes that dream seriously.

I get to surround myself with people who are willing to try things they’ve never done before. People who are curious about what they’re capable of, willing to put in the work, take some risks, and see where it leads.

I get to be a small part of their journey, but what they might not realize is just how much they inspire me along the way. ✨

Rain keeps falling i keep forgetting
I need a sunrise
Clouds keep forming, i keep watching
Safe on the inside
Everybody wakes scared of what they don’t know
So we wait, we wait
Like stone
Days keep rolling, i keep walking
Always on the inside
Nights keep turning i keep learning
Never see a blue sky
Waving to myself, running through the fields
and i’m losing all emotion
Leave me here, leave me with the sound
of the trees and the ocean
I look at the sky, the beautiful sky
Everything will be fine
So i’ll be outside 😘

Finish line vibes.
The last mile or so felt like I was floating. Time sped up like I was caught in some kind of vortex, and then suddenly it spit me out from the road, onto the soft grass and into the finish chute.

And just like that, I was there.
Just magical. All of it.

It was also pretty cool crossing the line without much gear. I tossed almost everything at Bryce at the last aid station with eight miles to go. I did end up carrying two long sleeve layers bundled under my arm like a football, which, considering I have zero experience running with a football, was a little awkward. But fine. 😂

It’s only been a week and already some of the memories are starting to fade. It’s funny how something can feel so vivid and consuming while you’re inside of it, and then almost immediately start turning into little snapshots. So I’m really grateful for these.

Thanks @bethanyedraper for capturing those final miles and helping me hold onto the feelings a little longer as this season fades. ❤️

@bear100run 2027 lottery opens November 17th. 🎲🐻🏁

When you finish the Bear 10 times, you earn a pretty sweet award. Bryce earned his years ago, and little by little, I keep getting closer.

After UTMB, I knew I wanted to be gentle with myself at the Bear. I didn’t need anything from this race other than a weekend running through brilliant fall colors, listening to really good music and genuinely enjoying being out there.

As the race unfolded, my fitness caught me off guard. I was well ahead of previous years’ splits, and of course that was exciting. But I kept reminding myself not to let that change what I’d come looking for.
Joy.

Earlier this year, Rachel Entrekin shared something that has stayed with me through every difficult race situation I’ve put myself into this season:

She wanted to like who she was when things got tough.

I’ve thought deeply about that. It’s easy to like who you are when everything is clicking. It’s different when you’re exhausted, hurting, getting passed, or the race you imagined isn’t the race you’re getting.

The last time I ran the Bear, I was finishing the Rocky Mountain Slam. I was spent, on autopilot and carrying so much pressure, mostly my own, to make it happen. I finished, but afterward I was disappointed by how little I’d connected with the experience. It felt more like checking a box than being part of something I love.

I didn’t want that this time. I wanted to like who I was out there. And for me, I’ve learned that means looking for the little sparks, not waiting for it to find me. A ridiculous thing that makes me laugh when I’m tired. A song at exactly the right moment. The colors in the trees. The moon through the clouds. People I love popping up along the way. Looking around when my head wants to go down. Finding levity when everything feels heavy.

Those little sparks matter. Because if I can’t find that bright place when things get hard, what’s even the point?

And I found it at the Bear this year. Over and over again.

Yes, I’m proud of how well the race went on paper. But what I carried into Garden City means so much more.
I found the joy I went looking for.
And I liked who I was out there.

8 down…

I’m still not really sure how to put this one into words. I went into @bear100run not really knowing what my body would give me. Goals: Stay patient. Eat. Keep moving. Let the race come to me. And somehow, I had the race of my dreams.

I felt really good. I was definitely managing pain and different weird scenarios. But, I felt very present in all the miles. Bombing down Leatham while still managing to peep the colors and stay upright. Gliding through the magical moonlit meadows before Franklin Basin. Spotting the glowing red tree in the Sinks in the middle of the night… little moments of joy where I will NEVER forget how freaking lucky I was to be out there.

By Burnt Fork AS, I had 8 miles left to Garden City. I ditched everything at the aid station except for a half-filled flask, and two gels that I shoved in my pockets. As the literal weight lifted from my shoulders, I realized it felt amazing to run. With 8 miles to go after 92 miles, I could really run.

I covered those final 8 miles in 1:23 while watching the sunrise over Bear Lake. I crossed the finish line in 26:29:35. My fastest Bear ever, and dropped a whole hour off my 100 mile PR!

There’s something really special about having a coach I trust completely. At Beaver Mountain, @coach.nicole.rasmussen gave me exactly the boost I needed. Direct, filled with humor, and a reminder that what I needed was already there. I just needed to trust it. Having her in my corner as both a coach and a friend made the biggest difference to me this year.

And then there’s Bryce. I had only 28 minutes of accumulated aid station time over the entire 100 miles, some of my fastest stops ever. He knew what I needed, had it ready, and got me back out there. But it’s so much more than crewing a race. I’m incredibly grateful to have him beside me through all of it, whether we are in Vallorcine or Burnt Fork.

I’m 52 years old. I finished UTMB four weeks ago. And after all these years and all these hundreds, somehow my fastest one was STILL waiting for me. We never know when our best day will be.

I’m going to sit with this one for a while. F13 🐻🍁🧡

There are many things I think about when I hold up this bib. So many memories from years of piecing together this route through these beautiful Bear River Mountains.

It never gets any easier, and yet I keep finding my way back.
Even though I know the way, like every 100 miler, anything can happen, and usually does. I’ll be ready for whatever this one gives me.

Mostly, I can’t wait to tune everything else out, settle into the miles, and go have a beautiful experience out there.🐻❤️🏁
