#matariki and #worldrefugeeday both fall on 20th June this year, and it seems quite fitting that both provide an opportunity for reflection.and unity.

I have been blessed to spend time with some of our Palestinian @aroha_afternoons whanau since they were evacuated from Gaza a couple of weeks ago .

My thoughts are with Ahmed, Nima, Musa and all my refugee background friends who have loved ones still trapped in war torn countries around the globe 💛🌎💛

With over 123 million people now displaced across the world, and with so many parts of the globe experiencing war and conflict, it is all too easy to grow desensitized to the confronting images and stories that flood our media and news channels .

But behind these overwhelming numbers and images, lie human stories, people with hopes and dreams .

So let us not fall prey to ignoring these global issues, because both occasions emphasise unity, reminding us that inclusion is not an act of charity, but a commitment to our shared humanity.

The theme of this year's World Refugee Day is "community as a super power "
