This open call has just begun!

Looking for dedicated studio space, resources, and support to take your creative practice to the next level? Running With Scissors Art Studios (@rwsartstudios is now accepting applications for its 2027 EMERGE Artist in Residence Program in Print & Clay.

This six-month scholarship residency is designed for emerging Maine artists working in printmaking or ceramics. Selected artists receive a private studio, 24/7 access to RWS’s 16,000-square-foot facilities, specialized print or clay equipment, a $250 materials stipend, professional photography of their work, practice and headshots, artist promotion, mentorship, peer feedback, and priority opportunities to participate in RWS exhibitions and events.

The program is open to current Maine residents and recent graduates of Maine institutions with a foundational working knowledge of printmaking or ceramics. Applicants are generally artists in the early stages of their professional careers, typically with fewer than 10 years of actively exhibiting work and without a prior solo exhibition at an established gallery or museum. Residents commit to 8–10 hours of studio practice per week.

The residency runs February 1 through July 31, 2027, with one to two artists selected per session. Applications are due November 1, 2026, and selected artists will be announced in early December. RWS will also host in-person and Zoom information sessions throughout September and October.

This is an opportunity to build your practice, connect with other artists, access professional-level equipment, and work toward important career milestones.

Apply through the link on @rwsartstudios website.

🍂October's Harvest & Winter's Horizon: read the RWS newsletter today!

Autumn in Maine is invigorating. The air is crisp, art fairs bustle with tourists and locals alike, and there’s plentiful opportunity to celebrate local craft. But as anyone in the creative economy knows, this seasonal abundance is fleeting. Come January, as the temperatures drop, market opportunities and financial resources taper, leaving artists navigating the leanest months of the year.
