Idk trying something new.
I’m an outdoor photographer with hundreds of unseen photos sitting on hard drives. So I’m posting one new photo every day for 100 days.

We found Theo, thumb out, hitchhiking from Quebec to Vancouver when we asked if he wanted a Bugaboos detour. All he had was his hitchhiking gear and a Squamish rack. So after buying a 1970s ice axe off Marketplace and a borrowing an alpine kit, we were at Applebee Camp watching this kid float up everything we put him on.

We started calling him The Elevator. Whenever we got tired, we’d put him on the sharp end and he’d run out 70m in 15 minutes, chirping us the whole time.

Should we bring the camera?

Always.

Day 7 of posting every day for 100 days. Follow along for the streak.

I tore my ACL for the first time as a teenager, not long after this photo, I think. It happened again in my 20s. And yesterday, on an easy run, my knee popped, buckled, and I went down.

The pain, the instability, the clicking is all so familiar. I’m starting to wonder if this is just my once-a-decade thing, and honestly, I don’t know if I have it in me to go through it alone in the city again.

And not to be dramatic (imagine) while I wait on the MRI, I’ll be hanging out, figuring out whether staying here still makes sense, putting time into the studio, and looking for fun things to shoot. I won’t be climbing hard anytime soon, but I’d love to hang from a rope and shoot some projects around the Gunks. Hit me up if you’ve got something in the works.

TL;DR: I’m hella bummed.

Swinging high above the valley floor on the iconic El Cap rope swing.

This is by far my favorite Yosemite rest day activity.

Franconia Notch houses the only free-standing pillar in the East. It’s short and classic, with just enough room for two people to sit and take in the New England autumn in all its glory.

I guess this makes us leaf peepers?

It’s the hard routes that get the most attention, but it’s the long moderates we remember most. Running it out with thousands of feet of air beneath your feet, and the kind of laughter that only happens when you’re tied in with good friends.

Last one from this series. This was a pretty fun challenge to shoot all in Camera, natural light, and without using photoshop to isolate the climbers from the background.

If you’ve bouldered in the Gunks, you know this route. @vulvariana_ on the opening moves of the Carriage Road classic. More from the series.

Isolating movement on rock. From a bouldering series I shot in the Gunks last season.
