House of the Sun
A dance-theatre performance inspired by “The Little Lantern” by Palestinian author Ghassan Kanafani.
📅 3 November
📍 El-Hakawati Theatre – Jerusalem
🕔 5:00 PM
This is the story of a family trying to find a shared language. The father and mother dream of opening a door for their daughter into a world of stories, imagination, and questions, while she tries to find her own way. As they attempt to read “The Little Lantern” together, a journey unfolds, filled with movement, play, and imagination. Moving between the worlds of adults and children, we discover much about love and the willingness to keep trying, and about the distance that can sometimes grow between us, even when we live under the same roof.
House of the Sun is an invitation to return to reading as an act of hope: to read so that we never stop questioning, to imagine so that we can see wider possibilities for life, and to be together so that we do not face the darkness alone.
A family performance for ages 7 and up.
Concept, direction & choreography: Shaden Abu Alasal | Performers: Masha Samaan, Yara Zureiq, Hanna Birakh | Music: Said Murad | Text & dramaturgy: Maya Abu Alhayat | Video art: Marcelle Arouri | Rehearsal management: Natalie Nimr | Lighting: Mohammad Shaheen | Set design: Manar Muallem | Sound engineering: Fadi Murad | Costumes: Haifa Kanj | Set construction: Samir Hawa | Poster design: Ghaid Khatib | Filming: Dima Hager | Video editing: Amir Zaatari by @sabreenjerusalem
