📍 Sadrock, Limousin—where melancholy finds its stage. by @sadrockfest

Who are we, and why Sadrock?

Sadrock was born from a very a simple idea: to imagine something different, in the here and now.

It was inspired by a collective of individuals from various different backgrounds, but all with a shared appreciation of Limousin, its inhabitants, and everything this region has to offer.

We live in a time of tension, withdrawal, and disillusionment. Here, as in many other parts of the world, recent elections have felt like a wake-up call. Instead of succumbing, we have chosen to act and to create a platform; a space where people can unite and share, and where culture becomes a rallying point.

Sadrock provides an outlet to a generation which refuses to just sit back and observe the world—it wants to take part in it and change it for the better.

We grew up with music as an escape, a refuge, a guide. We want it to be a means of weaving connections, creating meaning, and broadening horizons.

We don’t want to divide, but to unite.
Sadrock is about believing that a village in Limousin can unite together to sing this universal language of songs that were once written further afield. That we can dream big without turning our back on our roots.

Sadrock is not just a festival.
It’s a starting point.

A pretext to create bonds, spark ideas, and build something bigger than ourselves. by @sadrockfest

For centuries, melancholy has been a great source of artistic inspiration. Aristotle understood it to be a defining trait of thinkers and artists. In Problema XXX, he pondered, “Why is it that all men who have become outstanding in philosophy, politics, poetry or the arts are melancholic?” It has become a starting point for many important works —a universal emotion that transcends time and distance; a blend of tragedy and nostalgia from which creation is born. Romanticism made it an aesthetic in itself. Baudelaire’s Spleen became the driving force of his poetry: « I have more memories than if I were a thousand years old," he wrote, expressing the weight of time and the constant dialogue between the past and the present.
The need to express loss, despair, or longing is at the core of nostalgic art. Through poetry, blues, and rock music, melancholy is the underlying force that transforms the unspeakable into beauty. »

With the rise of rock ‘n’ roll, the idea of melancholy evolved. Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry drew from the Blues to create melodies that were more widely accessible, but just as intense. Later on, Rock artists such as The Beatles (Yesterday) and The Rolling Stones (Wild Horses) began incorporating strong sombre themes and sounds into their songs.
This introspection peaked with genres such as grunge (Nirvana, Alice in Chains) and shoegaze (My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive), whose distorted guitars amplified the feelings of loss and longing.

Sadness is far from being a hindrance—it often serves as a creative stimulus. As the philosopher Alain wrote in his work “On Happiness”:
"Melancholy is the shadow cast by the light of our consciousness."

The guitar, whether acoustic or heavily distorted, embodies this bold contradiction—intimate yet explosive, fragile yet powerful. Jeff Buckley, Nick Drake, and Sonic Youth used it as a tool to explore the infinite nuances of melancholy, between softness and chaos. by @sadrockfest

🎶 Envie de prog : @cutface_music
🖤 UK garage sombre, spoken word tendu, catharsis club.

—————————————————————————————

🎶 Our dream line-up : Cut Face
🖤 Dark UK garage, tense spoken word, club catharsis.

Cut Face is where punk urgency meets UK pulse - spoken vocals, heavy bass pressure, rising tension. “Those Sundays” builds a cinematic night world - nervous melancholy, sharp breakbeats, emotion held tight. No posing. Just impact.

At Sadrock, Cut Face would move the shadows - modern, fragile, electric catharsis.

————————————————————————————— 🎛️ Our DNA : Nirvana 🖤 Incandescent grunge, raw vulnerability, melody under pressure. Nirvana marks the turning point - the moment fragility becomes a scream and melody collides with distortion. Three chords, dirty feedback, and a rare ability to turn doubt into anthem. Beneath the anger lies fracture - awkward romanticism, uncomfortable honesty. Their music doesn’t chase elegance - it forces it. It moves exposed, balancing explosion and restraint, softness and abrasion. That permanent tension is the DNA - beauty emerging from noise, melancholy hidden inside simple riffs, total sincerity. At Sadrock, Nirvana stands as a core foundation - unfiltered intensity, eternal youth, refusal of compromise. Music that doesn’t comfort, but understands. #Sadrock #NotreADN #OurDNA #Nirvana #Grunge by @sadrockfest$

⸻

🎶 Our dream line-up : Ela Minus
🖤 Minimal synth-pop, intimate pulse, soft radicalism.

Ela Minus crafts electronic music by hand - live-played machines, restrained beats, a voice both fragile and resolute. Rooted in DIY punk and emotional synth-pop, her music moves quietly, driven by repetition, control, and inner intensity. Electronic pop without spectacle, built to resonate deeply.

At Sadrock, Ela Minus feels essential - a night that moves without excess, melancholy in motion, modern elegance with real emotional weight.

⸻——————————————————————————

🎶 Our dream line-up : Monolithe Noir
🖤 Dense coldwave, dark elegance, inhabited tension.

Monolithe Noir is Antoine’s project, following his earlier work as Arch Woodmann in the 2000s. Here, the writing is stripped to the core - cold synths, dry rhythms, a deep and frontal voice. A contemporary coldwave built on restraint rather than nostalgia.

The music moves like a block - minimal, nocturnal, charged with physical melancholy. A project made for the stage, sober and hypnotic.

At Sadrock, Monolithe Noir expresses a clear desire - to make the night pulse and give emotional gravity a body.

🎤 Notre ADN : @theroots

🎤 Our DNA: The Roots
🖤 Political groove, organic hip-hop, amplified awareness

The Roots reinvented live hip-hop. No plastic gimmicks, no static samples - just a live rhythm section in full fire, pulsing basslines, a drummer that hits truth, and above all: the word.
Black Thought raps like breathing in a burning world - urgent, precise, profound. Their music is rooted - in the street, in history, in groove- but always forward-facing. A tension between commitment and elegance, introspection and blaze.
The Roots make hip-hop a living organism, a collective memory, a driving force. A foundational presence in the Sadrock DNA.

—————————————————————————————

🎶 Our dream line-up : BRUIT ≤
🖤 Orchestral post-rock, contained fury, Toulouse elegance.

BRUIT ≤ are one of the most compelling bands from Toulouse. Formed by former electronic musicians, they abandoned everything to craft orchestral post-rock - strings, slow detonations, political tension, soundscapes rising like tides.

Somewhere between Mogwai and Godspeed, but with sharp French writing, BRUIT ≤ turn each track into a manifesto - fragile, bright, sometimes overwhelming.

At Sadrock, they make perfect sense: a band that turns melancholy into architecture and noise into feeling.
