What could possibly scare a shiver of sharks!?
...
TWO GIANT BLUEFIN TUNA!! by @saltyvisionz

MESMERIZING... Every once in a while there's something that happens in nature that just fires me up to the point of random hooting, strange erratic movements, all while usually stumbling around with a camera in hand. Last time it happened (before yesterday) was the Aurora a few months back and the time before that was a massive hurricane swell at a new spot... I would argue levels of "perfection" are reached.

Yesterday it was the slushee waves. Seeing the liquid wave on the outside approach the slush was exhilarating.. It was like seeing the set on the outside and anticipating how and where exactly it would break. Figure out where on the icy beach I needed to be to "get the shot".

The other part of the excitement is in the sound that the waves make... It literally makes a SHHHH SHHHH sound everytime a wave comes in. The way the slush forms these crazy lines from the ice folding over itself is otherworldly. I was so mesmerized, I almost forgot how cold it was out, for like a second. Windchill in the single digits won't let you forget for too long.

These slush waves occur because it is the beginning of a salt water body freezing over. Being that the water is salty AND in motion it takes a bit more time to freeze and creates a slush before actually freezing solid. Similar to the spinning mechanism in slushy machines!

Next time I'm suiting up and taking my water housing out! I am so curious of the consistency. Can you swim in it? Will it damage a board? Will it hurt if the lipnhits you in the head? Is the slush thick enough to float on top of? Would you have to ditch the surfboard fins because of drag?

So many questions! Which one is your favorite 📸??

What are they.. Slushee Waves or Slurpee Waves?? by @saltyvisionz

IT HAPPENED AGAIN!!! This was taken 2 days ago at Ditch... about 200m off the beach.

Last month, I posted a very similar video, which has hundreds of comments saying it was A.I... (I swear it is not!).

What I do know is that I hadn't seen a large bait ball disappear that quickly before. Insanely fast.

Turns out, there's always something bigger out there, and even though tuna do not eat sharks, the sharks still get spooked when they make aggressive moves!

I slowed down the tuna part of the video ALOT, but that tuna was moving at an insane speed!

The breakdown: shark cruising through large baitball not causing much trouble; large tuna comes up from below causing the baitfish to scatter and, in turn, spooking the shark, causing it to dive to the depths.

That's my assessment... The shark isn't directly scared of the tuna, but when something larger comes from the depths, you probably don't want to be the only animal left at the surface! by @saltyvisionz

Check story for more shots from the Nor'easter! by @saltyvisionz

IT AIN'T OVER YET!!! Our nor'easter is still ripping out there and isn't letting up anytime soon. The carnage will continue well into tomorrow and arguably, Monday will be a bit wet too...

Wind continues to gust into the 40-60mpn range through the overnight hours and into tomorrow morning as the core of the storm approaches the south shore of Long Island and then slowly starts to fade out.

Rainfall continues with another couple of inches on the way as well. Gusty winds and downed trees will continue to take out power lines. The "soggier" the ground gets, the easier the trees fall. Full vegetation on the trees make them like sails, usually these storms come when the leaves are off!

Coastal flooding around tonight's high tide and tomorrow morning's high tide will be extreme. The Full Harvest Moon is excacerbating the situation with extra high tides on top of the storm surge and wind driven wayer. A potential wind switch tomorrow has me mildly concerned for additional flooding in slightly different areas.

Surf continues to be massive along the south AND north shore of Long Island as those northerly breezes push water into north facing areas and the east swell on the Southside continues to strip the sand away.

Our beaches and coastal communities are taking an absolute beating right now so keep those communities in your thoughts! 🙌🏻 by @saltyvisionz

Couple of shots from around town. Quite an impressive storm, and it isn't over yet... Stay safe out there! 🤙🏻 by @saltyvisionz

Storm is still ripping out there!!! All north easterly facing beaches are getting WOMPED right now... Gusts are averaging 50+mph with higher ones mixed in.

Downed trees, power outages and flooding near the coastlines are the biggest threats. This should continue into the evening hours with another high tide early this evening.

Storm continues through tomorrow but begins winding down.

Stay safe! by @saltyvisionz

IT'S COMING!!! At this point... There's no escaping it! Incoming nor'easter will bring alot of rain, wind, huge surf, and coastal flooding. Power outages for sure.

Rain moves in late Friday afternoon from east to west. Heavy rains pickup through Friday night and persist right through Sunday.

Coastal flooding exacerbated by the Full Harvest Moon high tides around 8am and 8pm (roughly) across the island.

Wind gusts will exceed 45mph across most of the island with many spots seeing higher gusts than that. The East End gets kind of walloped with wind, I wouldnt be surprised to see some gusts well over 70mph!

The storm is looking pretty serious and hasn't technically begun yet. Get that yard prepared, fuel up the generator and batten down the hatches! Unfortunately, we have another VERY wet weekend ahead of us...

Unless anything major changes, this might be the final forecast...

Signing off! by @saltyvisionz

It's all Sun and games until the storm arrives... Sand is disappearing quick!

Things should pick up even more through tomorrow with the rain starting from east to west late tomorrow afternoon right through the weekend! by @saltyvisionz
