Quite the haul this month! Plowed through 6 of the 7 Harry Potter books, and got in some spooky stuff too!
What did you read this month?

Children learn the love of reading from their parents, and my parents introduced a lifelong passion for reading and learning. In a tribute to my parents, I wrote about what that legacy means to me and how I want to pay it forward. This article took a lot out of me to write, and I dearly hope you like it. Link below:

Lately I’ve been reading a large assortment of books, some to satisfy a nostalgic itch, some that deepen my love of history. Let me know if you’ve read any of these!! Link below

I’m an avid history student and I went a little crazy at the library. The Vietnam books are helping immensely with my @uwmilwaukee Vietnam War class and I borrowed the Tolstoy biography to understand the author before I dove into War and Peace next month. I love learning more about the authors as I read the classics. If you love the classics, reading the authors background helps you understand their stories and influences SO much better. I wish English literature classes did that a little more, diving into the history of their books just as much as the books themselves, I think it would help analysis so much better. #books #reading #classics #library #history by @sam_reads_books9

Thank you so much for following me and my book adventures! I’m very thankful for every follower who sticks around to watch as I post about my books. I love every one of you.

About 10 years ago, I hand drew this map of Middle Earth, using a grid method, several fine tipped pens, and walnut ink to distress the canvas. I had the inside flap of one of the 3-in-1 LOTR books, and I spent ages on it. This piece of art is priceless to me, it’s been with me through several moves, and now that I have a permanent home for it, it is proudly displayed on my wall as a reminder of my perseverance and ability to see a project through. Much like the message of the books. Whenever I read the books, I can remember precisely where they are in Middle Earth, only because I hand drew it.

We toured an old bookstore in Milwaukee for my birthday and I had a lot of fun! This one is on Broadway and the shelves were twice as tall as I am. They were packed to the ceiling and the sheer breadth of genres was staggering. You felt sound muffled as you go back further in the stacks. To me, it felt like a warm hug of books, to my wife it felt claustrophobic. I was able to find some old gems, that looked well loved. Overall a very happy and comfortable birthday, here’s to 34!

My wife wanted to surprise me for my birthday and she really knows me well. I am very surprised and happy 😊🥹 I am a happy hobbit.

It’s my birthday tomorrow and my wife wanted me out of the house “for reasons,” so I wandered over to the B&N for some books. I can’t think of a better way to spend a few hours other than some eye opening time and some coffee. How do you spend your birthday if you’re a book lover?

Penguin classics are meant to be devoured. They’re meant to be consumed, to be left cracked in the spines, to be written on. They’re the most versatile study versions of the classics that I can think of. I love a good Penguin classic book that looks like it’s been through the wringer, it means it’s been loved and it opened up a world for someone.

Another day, another shelf tour! I can probably only do so many of these before I run out of shelves. I had to make sure Joes books were in order, before I started filming I noticed they were not in order and I had a feeling someone would point it out here.
