A little late though, but here are some organic glimpses from the 1st Waves Summit 2025; a remarkable initiative by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (Government of India), to bring talent and studios from across the globe at one platform. 4 days of inspiring and enriching experience! Three cheers to @MIB_India, @nfdcindia, and @ficci_frames

We had the privilege of attending a masterclass led by the legendary Australian director, Philip Noyce. I couldn’t resist capturing this unforgettable and beautifully symbolic frame. In the foreground, John Seale is seated, the iconic cinematographer behind masterpieces like Mad Max, while in the background is the remarkable Philip Noyce himself conducting the masterclass. Mr. Noyce, a thorough gentleman, totally grounded, full of life, and an absolute inspiration to everyone present. He was also honored with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at IFFI Goa, making this moment even more special.

Glimpse of IFFI Goa. 😎

Mad Max: Fury Road, Three Thousand Years of Longing, Harry Potter, City of Angels, The English Patient, Dead Poets Society, Rain Man… the list goes on. These masterpieces share one thing in common—the living legend behind the lens, John Seale. A Director of Photography, or as he prefers, a ‘cinematographer,’ whose work has shaped cinema in extraordinary ways.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending his masterclass, and it was nothing short of inspiring. From starting as a camera and equipment driver to becoming one of the most celebrated cinematographers in the world, his journey is as remarkable as the films he’s created. And no, he never attended film school—a testament to the power of passion and perseverance.

One of the most exciting takeaways was his innovative approach to multi-camera setups in real locations, which not only ensures perfect edit cuts but also minimizes stress on actors and saves hours of shooting time. Coincidentally, we applied the same method while shooting our film, ‘Samanantar,’ and the experience truly boosted our confidence as professionals.

What struck me most was his humility and grace—John Seale is the epitome of a gentleman. His words continue to resonate with me, and his masterclass has left an indelible mark, still in awe!! Thank you, Sir, for sharing your wisdom and for giving the world such incredible films. May God bless you with health, happiness, and even more exceptional stories to tell. Long live cinema! 🎥❤️ @pulkit.rathii @shots.by.archit

Alejandro Iñárritu said, “Cinema is a mirror through which we often see ourselves.” This sentiment resonated deeply with me as I undertook the rigorous task of marathon film previews and the final round of the selection process for the 55th IFFI, Goa alongside my fellow panel members. The entire experience sparked profound discussions and reflections, triggering uncharted emotions while exploring the unknown worlds on the screen — a testament to the power of visual storytelling. I’m honored to have been part of the preview and selection committee for the ‘International Section’ at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI). Together, we had the privilege of previewing and selecting some exceptional films from around the world, and the most deserving will be showcased in Goa from November 20th to 28th. My heartfelt congratulations to all the filmmakers, and I look forward to meeting you all in Goa. Cheers! 🥂
