POSTS STORIES REELS

I haven’t really had the words or the ability to process that our dear friend Jason Walker has left this world. We’re all so quick, me included, to jump online and express an emotion - then we get on with our day. I think subconsciously if I didn’t write about it, it wasn’t true. I’m kinda good at that particular emotion.

It has been sadly beautiful (JW would like that tip to Westerberg) to see the tributes flow in. I send love and condolences to his family and friends.

Like anyone who knew him, I have so many Jason stories. We met in the late 90s and I was in awe of him. I was the young upstart singer-songwriter and he was the more established musician. Pedal steel king, lead guitarist, singer-songwriter. He was a novelist. An encyclopaedia of music no matter the genre, and my favourite country music mentor.

We became label mates thanks to Stuart at LOR. We had connections to a part of Sydney in our youth, and we became good friends really quick. He played on my first five (of seven) albums, both lead guitar and pedal steel.

I was never happier for a musician than when he played shows in England as a solo artist. Not as a band member, not as a hired gun but as a respected solo act.

Over the years you’d see Jason out at any show worth being at, big or small. And always had that cheeky grin and a big hug for you. The last half decade wasn’t as kind to his health, but he fought on. I think I last saw and spoke with Jason at the Golden Barley, I don’t even know when - maybe it was summer. But I got that grin and I got that hug.

Seek out his solo work. It’s great. You’re probably already listening to something today he played on, such was the demand for his talent over the years.

This photo is from a benefit I was blessed to play after a bad run of health for Jason, and then he turned up to his own benefit and tore down the house! This image kinda sums us up - him onstage and me holding a drink in awe of him.

I am honoured to playing a couple of songs at a show dedicated to Jason's memory and life on Friday November 6th at the Marrickville Bowlo, organised by Jason's dear friend Neville. All money raised will go to Jason's children. by @samshinazzi

Earlier in the year we got to play at The Oak, up north in Tighes Hill with Dave Favours & The Roadside Ashes and FAHM. It was a lot of fun playing (and listening to) original independent Australian music!

We played a bunch of songs from our then new, now current album ‘On A Highway Somewhere’ as well as a few from ‘Days I Won’t Forget’. Both albums are available to purchase from Stanley Records. Performing with me is Dave Hatt on bass/vocals, Saul Foster on drums and Adam Young Music on lead guitar/vocals. The full show is now on YouTube; search Sam Shinazzi, give us a follow/subscribe and let us know your thoughts.

Hope to see some of you out and about in November/December. by @samshinazzi

Catching up on some of the shows I’ve played this year for the latest album ‘On A Highway Somewhere’ - this one with @dylanwrightmusic and @charleycastle_ at our local @brassmonkeycronulla was a packed crowd celebrating headliner Dylan’s latest release. We got to watch the local team win backstage on my tablet, and a great night was had by all. My highlight is in this video, singing @springsteen with DW! by @samshinazzi

Solo date night watching the legendary @countingcrows - one of the truly great live American rock bands - emote all over the place! by @samshinazzi

Our second video single is out now - ‘When They Talk About Me To You’ - from our new album ‘On A Highway Somewhere’ on @stanleyrecords

Massive thanks to my guy @_garydover for editing the clip and putting up with me thinking I’m Spielberg. Please share this around, I’d really appreciate it.

We’ve always wanted to play with the legendary Dunhill Blues and now we finally get to. Friday, January 30 at the Link & Pin in Woy Woy. The equally as impressive Sam Shinazzi is also on the bill.
