Recreation. Entertainment. Learning. Designed as a living laboratory for Kütahya’s public life. #sanalarc #kütahya #citydesign #eventeconomy #publiclife by @sanalarc
The production line, reprogrammed. Fırın → making. Kurutma → gathering. Seramik Sokak → daily life. The chimney stays. Sümerbank Keramik Fabrikası · Kütahya, 2020 sanalarc.com #sanalarc #citydesign #architecture #Kütahya #Sümerbank by @sanalarc
A neighbourhood needs three things. Somewhere to move. breathe. stop and stay. This is how Vefa gets all three. → Swipe. #vefamahallesi #kütahya #SANALarc #publicspace #urbandesign by @sanalarc
Vefa already had a logic. We read it before we drew anything. 17 hectares. 6,160 residents. One regenerative urban ecosystem. → Swipe. #vefamahallesi #SANALarc #citydesign #regenerativecity #placemaking The factory. The neighbourhood it created. A ruin and a community, separated by a wall — and nothing else. Sıra Evler. Grup Evler. Avlu. Karma Kullanım. Four block types — four ways people figured out how to live close without losing their own space. This is Vefa’s architectural vocabulary. The streets of Vefa slow cars down without a sign telling them to. The narrow facade. The shared threshold. The courtyard that faces inward. The neighbourhood already knew. Green space was 1.8% of the site. In the proposal: 24%. This is what that number looks like at the end of the day. Küçük Blok: separated spaces, car-centred. İyi Blok: shared street, people first. One block. One minute on foot. Everything daily within five. A cyclist. An elder. A parent with a stroller. Same street, same morning. In 1952, this land was mostly empty fields. A factory in the corner. A railway line at the edge. A few tracks across bare earth. By 1976, a whole neighbourhood had filled the site — built by hand, by workers, by families who needed to be close to where they worked. Today that neighbourhood holds 6,140 people across 17 hectares. 61.5% of the land is built. Only 1.8% is green. What does this land owe the people who live on it? And what needs to change — carefully, honestly, without erasing what’s already there? This post is the reading. The diagnosis before the design. #vefamahallesi #SANALarc #citydesign #footprintstrategy #socialinfrastructure by @sanalarc
Before the factory. Before the neighbourhood. Before the city as we know it. Kütahya has been a place of making for two thousand years. Understanding why the fabric is here — why this specific land holds these specific buildings and this specific community — is where the design work begins. #urbanhistory #SANALarc #architectureresearch #placemaking #industrialheritage by @sanalarc
